I went to my mom group today and nursed lo there, using the up/down technique (bra and tank down, shirt up) and I felt really comfortable. You couldn't see much of anything and lo was so totally cool with it and ate like a champ.
After my mom group, I stopped for lunch and nursed him in the restaurant too!

Well done! I've nursed in public a fair amount but usually somewhere that I've felt somewhat secluded. But this weekend hubs was trying on shoes in Cole Haan on 5th Avenue and there was not a convenient corner to tuck into so I just threw my cover on and took care of business right there. It was much easier than I expected!

I have nursed away from home a bunch, but I usually stay in my car. You've inspired me! Thanks for the up/down tip too, I'll employ that next time I'm over at my in laws.

@T.H.O.U.: yeah, I haven't gotten a cover (mostly because I didn't think we'd keep breastfeeding) and I feel like a cover would be really hard for us so I wanted to try the up/down and I like it a lot.

@septemberlove: omg my in-laws have seen my boobs more than anyone else at this point! It's DH's fault because he likes to go over there so often and stay so long that I usually nurse twice each visit.
And now I nurse there on my lunch break two days a week because MIL watches LO.
My boobs are no longer a mystery.

Huzzah! The empowering feeling doesn't seem to go away either. My guy is 9 months and we were at a wedding over the weekend. I nursed 2x at a welcome dinner & 2x at the wedding. I felt like such a BAMF.
I like the up/down method too, but when it's not possible (like in a dress) I use a scarf or pashmina (or even A&A blanket). My son hates a cover, but is okay if I hold up fabric to "shade" us. Plus, when he pops off (like, every 10 seconds ) I can quickly put the fabric over myself until he's ready to re-latch.

@mewtill: I like the blanket idea. I was really surprised that I felt like I'm feeding my child, that's what breasts are for, so what if someone sees a nipple? I was surprised at how little I cared about someone seeing something. But I think DH would not approve of me nursing in front of the ILs.

@septemberlove: is it weird that I actually feel more ok nursing in front of my FIL than my own Dad??
It's such a liberating feeling to be able to nurse your LO wherever and whenever and if anybody gives you stinkeye then just give them the stinkeye right back!
