My son (age 2) just started to refuse the sleep sack, which he has been using since 9 months old. He has a blanket in his crib but is on the smaller side. He uses it more as a lovey.
How should i keep him warm at night now? Should I get him a bigger blanket? Crank up the heat? Put heavier pajamas on him?
How do you keep your toddlers warm at night?

I am worried that my daughter gets cold at night (I'm snuggled under my duvet and sometimes I still feel chilly) so I'm actually on the hunt for a small space heater. That way before bed I can sort of warm up her room a bit, turn it off, and in the middle of the night warm it up again if need be.

Can you do two pairs of pajamas, a thin cotton one and a fleece one on top?

charlie is still in his sleep sack. right now he wears a long sleeve onesie and a grobag. when it's chilly out, we crank up the heat and put pajama pants on him.
the vornado heater is really great at warming up a room, and it's since it's a fan it's not dangerous like those space heaters with coils. we used that on extra cold nights because charlie's room is the chilliest.

Out of curiosity - what temperatures do you try to keep your kids room at? I tend to get chilly really easily and I know I keep my house a little on the warm side, which I've heard can be bad for babies who can't regulate their temperatures very well. I'm worried that I won't be able to judge how warm or cold it actually is since I'm almost always cold!

We keep our 3rd level (where the bedrooms are) at 70-72 degrees. My LO moves around like crazy and kicks off blankets so I just dress her in long sleeves. Recently purchased a sleep sack since the weather's getting chillier.
In your case I'd put him in thicker clothes and maybe put a space heater in his room.

i keep it around 75. they say you should keep it between 68-72, but that's freezing!

@Mrs. Bee - oh my gosh, your post makes me feel soooooo much better!!!! I usually keep my house around 75 as well, but I had read the 68-72 thing and so was nervous for my future children! I recently switched our temps to 72 for winter and I'm FREEZING all the time!!!

Interesting. In guess we keep our temperatures in the low end of the spectrum. We had it at 69 now at 70. I don't want to raise it too much because it gets dry here and my son has had some nosebleeds lately. We also have a 3 month old who's still swaddled while sleeping so we don't want her to overheat. I think I'll just try thicker PJs for now. Thanks for the info everyone!

I keep it around 73- 74... I like it on the lower side though.. 70 - 72 is nice for me but I am always worried that he is cold!

the kid has a onesie and then a carter fleece sleeper (the cheap ones from costco) on at night. He also has a blanket in his crib. It hasn't gotten cold enough to turn on the heat dish.

I used to just dress up my daughter in a long sleeve onesie and long pants up until a couple of months ago but she's outgrowing the onesie style. She is 20 months now and I never put her in a sleepsack. She moves around so much and I didn't think a sleepsack would be comfortable.
Lately I've been putting her on those two piece pajamas from Gap/Old Navy but I'm looking for more comfy PJ's for her.

In the winter, we keep the thermostat at 68, RJ sleeps in cotton footie pajamas and a fleece sleep sack. In the summer we keep the thermostat at 72 and he sleeps in a short sleeved onesie and a cotton sleep sack. This probably all sounds very cold to the rest of you, but he's always been a sweaty kid... he can never wear fleece or flannel or he sweats through his clothes!

DS wears heavy pajamas (keeping his socks on), and I cover him with his "warm blanket" (thats what he calls it), plus his sheet, comforter, and an extra fleece blanket!

@tina: Haha! It sounds HOT to me! We keep our thermostat at 63 in the winter! DS is a hot kid too, so I know that with everything I put on him, he is plenty warm! He will come into my room in the morning sweaty sometimes!

ever since my daughter moved into a bed she gets quite a few blankets durring the winter along with warm pajamas. I have to re tuck her blankets in on the bottom and sides a lot though because she throws them off from her rolling if I don't.

We use fleece PJs- that way our daughter really doesn't even need a blanket.
However, she also has 2 blankets in her crib. She's almost 2 and from books and joining us in our bed- she knows what the blankets are for and keeps them on most of the nights.

Yeah, I'd go with the Carters fleece sleepers. My LO is younger but doesn't like the sleep sack, so we live by those sleepers!
