I want to get my 4 year old a kid safe knife set, but I see there are a ton of options on Amazon. Does anyone have a set they really like? How well do they actually work? Links would be helpful!

We have this one. She helped me cut up a green pepper last night.

I actually started my son using butter knives for spreading and a small paring knife for slicing strawberries and bananas (with my supervison).

My 3.5 year old can use a paring knife with really close supervision...I just give him one that is a little more dull and am teaching him to keep his hands away from the blade. Are you wanting him to cut something to prepare a meal, or to cut his food during a meal? I don't think I would bother with kids knives, unless they are fully functioning and just built to their size.

I just got one of those Curious Chef knives (same as @smurfette) for my 3.5-year-old on the recommendation of a co-worker. Before that, I'd let DD cut things like bananas with a plastic Ikea knife (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90192962/).

We have started with this crinkle cutter. It's sharp enough that she can cut Persian cucumbers with it but not sharp enough to cut her. We use a child's size butter knife for spreading and soft things. We will go to a child's size paring knife next but I'm not sure which one yet.

We use a plastic disposable knife. It's pretty effective on the softer veggies, and I don't have to hover over B freaking out that he'll cut himself. And it gets him to help in the kitchen now and then

I let her use a paring knife (always supervised) and a mini chopping board. It's convenient and works perfectly for us.

IKEA has sets of metal fork/spoon/knife for kids, and we have a handful of those sets. The knives aren't particularly sharp, about on par with a butter knife, but they are smaller for kids to hold. My 4yo can actually use them well, and my 20m loves to try!
