I know my LO is still young, but curious how old your LOs were when they learned how to tie their shoes? How did you teach them? And how long did you practice with them before they finally got it on their own?

We've been using velcro straps on our son's shoes, so shoelaces haven't come up yet. He's almost 5... I think most kids around 5 can tie shoes! Definitely by 6 or so...

My DD was 5. We practiced with her. She also learned at school. She's still pretty slow though and wears mostly Velcro or slip on.

We haven't taught her yet, but she will know before she starts school at 5.
Teachers MIGHT have used to have time to teach tying shoes, but today we do not have the time to pull kids aside and teach them this basic skill. It absolutely has to fall on the parent. If you haven't taught your child by the time they start Kindergarten please buy only Velcro or pull on shoes. Imagine having to tie 20 pairs of shoes 3 times a day!

By 5. He's slow though so I usually have to help him when we're in a rush. It took him a few weeks to get the hang of it after I showed him.

She could tie her shoes slowly at around 5-5.5 years old (kindergarten).
