Pretty crazy! He didn't want to fight doping charges anymore. Thoughts?

I heard on the radio they had *10* eye-witnesses who had seen him doping during the Tour and were all willing to testify, and that was when he said forget it, I'm not going to fight this.

I saw this headline on my way to work and was completely shocked!

I guess to me it's an admission of guilt, if he REALLY did not dope he would be fighting and doing whatever he could to clear his name and still be considered one of the world's greatest althetes, makes me sad.

Read that and made me sad. I don't think he's guilty, but maybe I'm just naive.

Did they definitely strip him? Last I heard (at 7am) was that they were considering it. I agree w/@JessieJ017, though, it sounds like an admission of guilt to me!

I'm just really tired of athletes getting caught doing drugs. Its really annoying that they never find out during the events but always after. It makes me suspiciious of athletes with winning streaks, I always wonder if in 10 years they will be stripped of their titles too

Meh, I don't know....he's been dealing with this his whole life and he might just be like, "screw you guys, i'm done". After all, fighting those doping charges would be a ton of time and energy on his behalf. Maybe he'd just rather spend it enjoying life and being with his family instead of defending his honor and crap. I hope it's not true, but it doesn't necessarily read like he's guilty to me.

After the whole cancer thing it's really disappointed that he did this. You think he'd have more self-respect...
But then, knowing what I know about him, he's a very narcissistic person... so I'm not that surprised.

I personally don't understand why eyewitnesses don't speak up when they see the doping happening, it makes me suspicious of their motives and if they are involved in doping as well (if they are athletes).

I agree with @MrsBlackbird . . . just because he is not (continuing) to fight back does not mean he is guilty. It's totally a double-edged sword, i.e., if you deny accusations too vehemently, it's the *thou dost protest too much* outcome, whereas if you don't deny accusations enough, then whatever it is that is being said must be true.

yeah, it really is a double-edged sword. it would be annoying to keep fighting, but i don't know that i could just roll over to it.
his statement is pretty true because if you're just taking witnesses instead of all the crazy testing that he's had to go through, then why even do the drug tests in the first place?

i'm so conflicted because i don't know what side to believe! it doesn't seem farfetched that an athlete would do this bc we've seen it time and again, but lance armstrong seems adamant that he didn't and that they are just on a witch hunt and that he's sick of it.
here's an article i read that makes me side more with armstrong, but who knows!! - http://aol.sportingnews.com/sport/story/2012-08-23/lance-armstrong-ending-fight-vs-anti-doping-agency-could-lose-tour-de-france-tit?fb_comment_id=fbc_10151049692488034_23963765_10151049920203034#f1b92ea638

Very disappointing... to me it seems that he must have known they had evidence against him for him to just say "drop it".

I think the whole thing is garbage.
He won his first title how many years ago.....there was testing at that time.
If the sport wants to be taken more seriously, it should have been dealt with at that time, and he should not have been allowed to compete again from that point on, period.
Let alone win six more times, and years later have that all stripped away......
I don't blame him for not fighting it, it seems endless in the cycling world, and they have been trying to nab him for years, why don't they make things more cut and dry immediately following these races, during, before, whatever!
Regardless.....and this is totally my opinion because I watch sports on TV where athletes take whatever to be better and I still enjoy and watch them, that even if Lance DID dope himself up, no drug on the face of the planet replaces the amount of training he would have had to do, nor get through each leg of those races, let alone win seven flipping times. Perhaps it gave him an advantage in certain areas, who are we to judge! Its how long since then, and if it wasn't him that did it, it would have been the other winner(s) that did as well as clearly its rampant throughout the sport.
I feel awful for Lance, maybe I am naive, but I don't think all this time later and after 1, 2, 3 however many wins if he was doping bad enough and they wanted him out, it should have been done then, not all this time later, what a shame.

@Beebug: I don't feel bad for him. If you've ever known him or his exes you'd know that this isn't that surprising at all!

@Mrs. Jacks: Ditto! He actually went to my high school and was a pain in the ass even back then...

The USADA does not have a typical judicial process. They were clearly on a witch hunt. And the titles are not gone (yet) - the USADA does not have that authority.

I don't like him, and I have always thought he was guilty -- fighting or admitting or not. And I believe that it is crystal clear it gave him (and many others) an advantage -- in ALL areas. Not only can you compete harder, you can train harder.
