I know things come up, that sickness/issues arise, however last minute cancellations are KILLING me right now. Her party is Sunday, we had RSVP date of the 26th for a swimming party (had to get head count) and i've had 2 families back out today and one never respond (who is one of my BFFs...she's avoiding the question although responding to everything else, just tell me no.) I'm just frustrated right now because I told DD who was all going to be there, and now i have to tell her two of her friend have backed out. She's so emotional right now i don't want to hurt her feelings.

Ugh, I know that feeling and it's so frustrating!! I just had to cancel going to a baby shower myself the day of because I came down with a cold and my husband pointed out, "don't you always hate when you're at a gathering and there's someone obviously sick, coughing, sneezing, and you just wonder why they came to spread their germs to everyone else?? Well, you would be THAT person if you went!" It helped put it in perspective haha, but I still felt terrible at the time. So maybe look at it from the way that you wouldn't people there that are stressed about needing to be somewhere else at the time so it's better that they don't come in the first place... Trying to look at it from a positive angle ha.
I'm sorry that people are flaking on you though! I would tell your daughter that something came up and so & so can't go but ___ & ___ are still going to be there and they are SO excited to come! That stinks regardless

i hate flakes, but i also expect it now a days! i've been in the position where i all of a sudden get sick or one of the kids does and i agree with @OurEastAndWest:'s DH!

I'm sorry people are flaking out - I wouldn't be mad at the sick people but I would be annoyed at your BFF who is just being dodgey - what the heck?!
Maybe just not tell your LO! Once the party comes she will be so engrossed she might not notice her missing friends?

For my daughter's first birthday, over half of the people who said they were coming cancelled last minute. These are my relatives, and unfortunately it is pretty typical. I'm glad she was too young to care.

That stinks. Hopefully you can use it as a teaching moment to help her understand needing to be flexible and understanding sometimes in life.

So frustrating. We had a party last weekend and 2 days before I had 12 extra people say they were going to come. Never mind they were a week past the RSVP date. It was fine in the end, but still.
