So sweet. I can relate to the not taking a day off while LO's in daycare. I'm not even taking off tomorrow for my birthday.

Totally having a full on cry fest as I try to get my 5 month old to nap just a few minutes for the umpteenth time today. I'm beyond frustrated and exhausted but somehow this article makes me feel like someone else gets it.
Thank you for posting this , I needed that.

Um, totally needed a few kleenex. so sweet!
I am not near as selfless as the working mom described, though! I am taking my birthday off next week for myself

@blackbird: Lately, I've had some down time at work, so at times, I feel bad about it. This morning, however, I'm relieved that he's at daycare after his first vomit. It's my second WFH day today. So glad I can clean it up.
My husband ruined my last day off where I just chilled out. It's not worth it to me to take them anymore. No mental health days for me.

@cascademom, that's such a bummer
I have been holding onto a pedicure gift for an ENTIRE YEAR and I don't really do that stuff much after work or on the weekends. Plus i'm almost maxed on vacation time. Oops.

@blackbird: Awesome! I just can't see mental health days in my future after that last day off. I'm excited about getting a donut tomorrow though.

I'm so glad this just got bumped! I saw it on Huffington Post and wanted to share but I was pretty sure I had seen the title somewhere here today--apparently my searching wasn't very effective!
Anyway, I loved this so much. There's so much judgement from both sides (although I think for the most part the judgment is thrust upon us all from outside sources). I have so much respect for WOHMs...I can't imagine how hard it was to leave your baby with someone else and go back to work, and then come home and still be "on". E is 18 months old and I'll be facing it soon and I'm so scared.
And on the opposite side, being a SAHM is hard, too. My coffee is often consumed cold and quick. I get a bit of a break when he naps, but when he's up he's up up up. D works non-traditional hours, often gets home hours after bedtime and sees E little during the week so I'm trying to be both mom and dad for him when he's awake during the day and I feel like I fail at both.
I have no judgement for either side, and it would upset me so much if someone was judging me. I've done and will continue to do what I feel is best for my child, myself, and my husband, and I firmly believe that every other mother does the same. Who am I to judge that what's best for someone else doesn't line up with what's best for us?
Anyway, wonderful read!

I really needed this tonight! I leave for an overnight business trip tomorrow and it will be the first night I'm away from my 5 month old...to say I'm feeling guilty is an understatement. I have to keep telling myself that I'm setting a good example for him about gender roles and hard work and that women can be both nurturing and strong. I don't know how I'm going to make it through tomorrow night and Saturday.
