Hi All. I have a 10 month old who has been going to daycare since she was 4 months. She's always slept well there, in fact I credit them for helping us get her on a nap schedule at home. Last Monday when I picked her up, they told me she only napped 40 minutes. The whole day. I thought maybe it was just an off day, but she continued to do it the rest of the week. Thursday when I picked her up, she fell asleep on the car ride home (less than a 5 minute drive) so I know she's tired.
I was worried how the three day weekend would go, but she napped great for us. Her two naps usually total 2 1/2-3 hours. Then yesterday at daycare, I picked her up and they told me she only slept 50 minutes the whole day. Of course, she falls asleep on the way home again. I can't have her napping that late in the day (5:45) because that will throw her whole bedtime routine off. But I let her sleep at little because I felt bad... then around 6:15 she woke herself up and was screaming. She was so miserable the rest of the night (cranky and obviously tired) that I finally put her to bed at 7:20. Her normal bedtime is 8.
I don't know what to do about this. I already feel like I barely have time with her during the week, and I don't want our time after work to be her being miserable and then going to bed earlier than normal. We've been talking to the teachers at her daycare and they say they do everything they can to get her to sleep but for some reason lately she's just so distracted by everything. They've even tried turning her crib around so she can't see everyone else playing but then they said she leans over the one side to try to look. Oh and screams. A lot. They think maybe she's ready to drop a nap, but I saw her this weekend...she gets tired in the morning and afternoon around her normal nap times.
I know babies usually sleep differently at daycare than they do at home so I'm not always expecting her to come home with 3 hours of napping under her belt, but anything would be better than 45 minutes. It would be one thing if she acted normal the rest of the night but for her not to sleep and then come home and be absolutely miserable breaks my heart.
Anyone been through this? Is it just a phase or is she just done napping at daycare? She is getting moved to the toddler room in September so I know there they have a specific nap time where the lights are off and everyone is to nap. I just hope this isn't the new normal for the next two months.
