Does anyone have experience with any of the third party apps that you can buy to create a password protected folder on an iPad? Most are marketed to store private photos and videos, but I am specifically looking to segregate specific apps, and I can't tell which ones will be able to do that. Thoughts or reviews of any you have used?

What about just using kid mode? You can lock apps off when it's on and leave it on indefinitely.

@MrsSRS: Doesn't "kid mode" just lock it into one specific app?
I should clarify that this is not for LO, it's for my students at school. We'd rather they not have unfettered access to certain apps, but do want them to be able to use them under guidance from time to time.

No with guided access on ours you can decide what is available and what isn't, including which portions of the screen are touch sensitive, then it locks with a pin.

@MrsSRS: Good to know, thanks! I am not an Apple person at all, so it sounds like I had misunderstood what I had read about guided access.

@lady baltimore: Guided access is really only for restricting access temporarily to one app (and selected areas of the screen). I haven't used this myself, but it looks like you can use Restrictions to password protect specific apps: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201304
