Have you ever had your LO's preschool/daycare teachers babysit your LO(s)? Did they offer to babysit for you or did you ask them?
We had conferences the other night and LO's preschool teacher offered to babysit for us whenever we need someone. I thought that was pretty nice of her, since we don't have a babysitter besides our parents right now. We may take her up on that at some point!

I was tempted to ask some of DD's teachers, but decided not to.
We use our friend's kids' teacher when we need a sitter.

Yup they are the only people we've had babysit besides our parents! Obviously parents are our first choice since they are free 
But the teachers know their schedules / attitudes / quirks already so it stresses me out way less when they are watching them. Also they deal with getting whole classrooms to take a nap so I'm not as worried about them putting them to bed either.

No, I wouldn't want to have a potential issue at home spill over to the center, or vice versa. My daughter's current center either prohibits or highly discourages this (I'm not sure which, but I know none of the full-time teachers do it). The center she'll probably be going to in the fall has no problem with it, but I think we'd only use the option as a last resort.

Our babysitter is a former teacher (she left the daycare). I love it because I didn't have to vet her and LO already knew and liked her so it's worked out great.
We are actually not allowed to use current teachers.

Our preschool prohibits this but I wish they wouldnt. I would love to ask LO's teachers to babysit!

DD's beloved daycare teacher offered to babysit her on the weekend or in the evening (and also to bake her birthday cakes). We moved and never got to take her up on it, but I totally would have! This teacher adored her and had great references from other parents who used her babysitting services in off hours.

We haven't had a need to but I know some parents at daycare do. Our daycare allows the teachers to offer their services outside the classroom, but the parents, teacher, and admin have to sign some sort of form.

Ours have all offered but we haven't taken them up on it yet. I really want to though, I love that they already know her schedule and I feel like she'll be less likely to freak out with them. The only problem is that when we most need sitters are the days she's home sick from daycare, and obviously they can't help then.

The only sitters we have are family. There's one preschool teacher I really like, but don't know if it's weird or a conflict of interest to ask if she babysits. Another positive is that she lives right by us!

Our center doesn't allow current teachers to babysit, but our main sitter is a former teacher! (Our center is attached to a grad school training program, so she left the center to take a new internship, not bc of a "bad" reason!) it's perfect, lo loves her so much!

Yes, but we have used a seasonal (summer/vacation) teacher, and will use a former teacher for the first time this weekend. I'm not sure that I'd want a current full time teacher, just in case of any issues. Plus my favorites are all "taken" by other families already, or have their own kids to take care of... ha.

yes, and I would use them more if our favorite teacher didn't have a child of her own!! They know him the best, and he is comfortable with them. We haven't found any other sitters -- if my parents aren't available, his teachers are the only other people we have used.

Yes - LO1's infant teacher has babysat a couple times for us and offered to watch LO1 when I went into labor with LO2. A lot of the parents at the daycare use her for babysitting. I am so thankful she is there.

Yes, I asked LO's in home daycare provider for a babysitter recommendation and she said she would do it. We've only asked a couple of time and she watched them at her house (the normal daycare environment). Since then she has started date nights. Yay! I love not having to explain everything.

No, they have a rule against this at LO's school, they don't think its professional. At his old home daycare two of the assistant teachers became our babysitters and they were great! sadly we moved to a new town so don't have them anymore

We've had 4 different teachers sit for us, although each time the teacher wasn't our son's current teacher. I babysat for families when I was working at a preschool during my college days & it was always great. I'm surprised there are so many places with rules against this; that would bother me.

I haven't yet but our daycare just emailed a list of all teachers who want to babysit with their contact info. I loved that they did that and never thought it could be unprofessional. We've only had my mom babysit DD and since she watches her 4 days a week while I'm at work it would be nice to have someone else to call!

We've had one of the workers say she would babysit anytime we needed someone. We haven't used her as we have tons of family here. I totally would ask many of the workers and would honestly prefer them over my in laws

@JoyfulKiwi: I don't understand that either. You can be a babysitter and be professional too. Daycare teachers are not paid very well so I don't see why they shouldn't be able to use those same skills to babysit.
Yes, we've used a couple different teachers to babysit. Also, when I was a young elementary teacher without a family, I babysat and house sat for former students/families.

We never have. I've thought about it, but never ended up doing it. Usually our parents are available. Plus, something about it doesn't feel right to me. I guess because if I were a daycare teacher, I feel like the last thing I'd want to do at the end of a long day is keep watching someone else's kid!
