My parents would, but my husband wouldn't want them to, especially if it was an optional activity. For work obligations, it's a different story.

I don't really know what my parents would do, but I'm with you. I wouldn't expect them, too. Honestly, sometimes I think people expect too much of grandparents. It's great if they can and want to help out, but I think it's also perfectly reasonable if they don't want to risk getting sick, just like any other babysitter.

My parents have come down a few times to take care of B when he was sick and I couldn't take time off work. That being said I think if he got sick while they had him (like, they/I didn't realize he was sick) they would call me. But I don't think they would tell me to come pick him up (although I would, because I'm an overprotective worrier), they would just want to give me a heads up.

My mom would have called and told me LO was sick and asked whether I wanted to come home or whether she should take care of him, and probably would have asked LO his preference. For a date night, we'd come home.

My mum definitely. My dad probably too, but he doesn't live close by. My in-laws no way, but they don't even babysit when lo's fine, but that's another story!
If my lo's still on the younger side and not able to express how he feels, id probably have gone to pick him up because I don't think I would have been able to enjoy an evening out while worrying!

My parents are in their 50s and my mom doesn't have the best health. She took care of my sisters kids when they were sick, and my mom got sick herself, ended up in the hospital and it was quite serious . So I try not to have my kids around my parents when they're sick.

No, because my mom works, this usually happens with very little notice, and she has a hard time dealing with the kids when they're in healthy and in a good mood. I wouldn't do that to her or the kids. I wouldn't even ask my MIL because she's much older and scared of something happening to her while she's watching them.

Every time one of the boys get sent home from daycare for being sick, my mom always offers to take off work and take care of them, lol. She's obsessed

I think they probably would if it was really necessary, like if somehow DH or I absolutely couldn't get back or we were both also really sick and couldn't take care of LO. I wouldn't want them to, though, because I feel like they shouldn't risk getting sick when they're in their mid-60s and can avoid it. I'd feel terrible if they caught something.

My MIL would be totally unfazed and would handle everything. My mom would probably freak out.

My mom has taken care of DD when she was puking because DH and I were puking too. If we were out and DD started puking, my mom would tell me as an FYI, not because she wanted me to come home (though I would come home).

They'll watch DD if she has a minor illness like a cold, but they wouldn't watch her if she had the flu. They got really sick from one of my nieces a couple years ago and are more cautious since then. I can't blame them! When little kids get sick they spread their germs all over.

In your case, a kid that is sick 15 mins after arriving with no symptoms, I don't think they would even let me know until we got home but if they were really sick I think they would want us to come home.

My mom or MIL would just handle it. They wouldn't even call because they know we would just be worried. I think it's weird that yours made you leave your date!

Yes, they would. My mom and his mom would take care of her, sick or not. They would probably call us to let us know and let us decide if we wanted to come home. But they would probably say, "M got sick, I've got this. Don't come home."

@Mrs. Washi Tape: my MIL has but for work not date night. Probably if it weren't that bad and we had already left or if we had maybe prepaid something expensive, they would but if we hadn't gone yet and we wouldn't lose out on $$ we would end up cancelling. I would feel guilty about going on date night and leaving he grandparents to deal with a (eta: very) sick kid (eta colds don't count, imo) who probably wants mommy anyway.
