I'm thinking about introducing a lovey for LO, who is 9 months old. I'm torn about it though - on the one hand, it would be nice for him to have a comforting object, especially while traveling, which we plan to do in a month. On the other hand, it's kind of nice that he isn't dependent on a particular object for comfort or to sleep. What do you think?
Bonus question: if you did introduce a lovey, at what age did you do it, and how long did it take for your LO to become attached to it?

I've tried pushing loveys but it doesn't work. My LOs are thumb addicts.

charlie adopted his onesie as his lovey. he would chew on the sleeves when he was 2 months old. as he got older he would touch the sleeve edges for comfort. now he uses mr. bee's t-shirt as a lovey. he doesn't super need it, but i think it comforts him.
i introduced a lovey to olive around 7 months? it was just a burp cloth that she was already familiar with. she calls it her lovey and she doesn't super need it either, but she does like it.
i guess the upside of having a lovey is they may not suck their thumbs!

I have randomly tried introducing objects that could pass for a lovey and she's disinterested. She's not a thumb sucker either.

LO uses and aden and anias lovey and has since he was about 3 months old. I think it helps him self soothe and is a comfort item at night and when at the baby sitters!

We introduced a lovey around 5 months and I am so glad we did...I really think it helps him put himself to sleep and comfort himself in the MOTN. We have three of them, so I don't worry too much about losing one. I wouldn't say he's 100% attached to it, as in he can't go anywhere without it, but I do think he likes it.

LO has never taken to a lovey. We tried a doll and a couple of blankets and sh'e snot interested. She loves her paci's though, so I guess those could be her lovey

I grew up with one and introduced one around four months for DS. It's an a a security blankie and he took to it right away but he's always been a blanket lover! It's always under his face when he sleeps and he plays with it before we get him out in the morning. I like that we can take it while we travel!

N's lovey has become a sleep cue, once I put him in his crib he'll reach up for it with his mouth open ready to chew on it. I don't think he needs it, since I've substituted it for some random blanket in a pinch and he still goes to sleep the same, but I know he recognizes it and likes it. N is 8.5 months.

LO has a lovey and whilst she enjoys cuddling it whilst sleeping, she's not dependent on it, so kind of best of both worlds.

LO refused one for the longest time but finally took one, a bear and AA lovies around 18 months. He is now 2.5. I think they are great, it probably helps that he isn't completely dependent on them though, he can totally leave the house without them and not have a meltdown . We travel a lot and always take them, and they were WONDERFUL when he started daycare. These days he mostly has them for travel and sleep. Occasionally when he is upset the lovey can do wonders to calm him.

I can't remember when we introduced it....maybe 4-5 months? She didn't care about it at all at first, but got attached to it maybe around 9 months. I only give it to her for naps and bed time. She loves to suck on it so it gets pretty gross (we actually have 4 of the same one to rotate). Sometimes I worry about when/how we'll take it away, but mostly I'm glad she has something comforting for her, especially if we are ever in new/different situations. Or I put it in the diaper bag just in case we're out somewhere and a meltdown happens. Luckily I havne't had to use it for that yet. It doesn't cause any problems so I don't anticipate getting rid of it anytime soon.
