LO is 11 months and has low tone. He does not push up during tummy time but is an excellent sitter and reacher. He has been rolling more as of late but still has no interest even in scooting at this point. We've been to PT, but I know he will just move along in his own time. Any thoughts, advice or encouragement welcome!

My nephew had low muscle tone and has been behind in his milestones. He did PT a couple of times a week, I think-- I know it was hard on his parents because he would cry but it was for his own good! He didn't start walking until about a year and a half or slightly more but he is walking well now (22 months).
I assume your LO is being followed by his ped and the PT? If they say things are OK and he's doing things on his own time, then I'm sure he is!

Can't speak to the low tone, but my daughter was a late physical milestone hitter. She's hitting them all in her own time, no worries. Do you feel you've gotten adequate help for the low tone issue?

@foodnerd81, thanks! Yes, being followed by ped and PT. PT actually says he's in great shape and identified it as immature sensory areas on his knees and hand (versus low tone as defined by ped). Ped wants to see movement by 1 year which is in 3 weeks so I'm hoping he picks up a little by then.

@sarac, we've been to PT 2x in last 2 months. They actually don't want to see him again for some time because there's not much they can do at the moment. They gave us tons of exercises which we are doing but LO just cannot stand to be on his hands and knees. PT is not so concerned.

Just curious, how do they know it's low tone and not late crawler? My son is 9 months and has zero interest in crawling Or scooting. He's interested in standing but not very good at it!

@septmomma12 The doctor is the one that said it was low tone. But then the PT said it was just immature sensors on the knees and hands, etc. Since this post, my LO has scooted about 10 times. I know he will become mobile in his own time!

@septmomma12 - low tone is when the muscles are kinda loose and floppy, which often leads to a delay in milestones. It may be caused from an underlying disease, or it could be just low tone. Muscles naturally have some level of tone and give some resistance to movement or stretch. If your baby's arms/legs are really easy to move and seem kinda floppy he may have hypotonia, or low tone. On the reverse, if they're really stiff and hard to move he may be hypertonic.
