I'm trying not to get my hopes up but we put in an offer on a short sale last night! I know it can take MONTHS so we will continue to look for houses in the meantime.
Did you buy a short sale? How long did it take?

yayyyy gooood luck! we didn't buy a short sale, but from friends' experiences in MI-- it was only a month or two longer than regular private sales. This may of course be because of the overflow of houses in MI though~

We looked into a short sale, but turned away due to the predicted much longer delay (we were in a hurry to purchase). Good luck to you though, and hopefully the response time is much sooner!

Good luck on the short sale! We didn't but our friends are in process right now- so far it's been two months and nothing yet from the bank.

Good luck! We never bought a short sale, but had friends who did - I think the whole process took like 6 months?? Hopefully your process is much quicker!

I hope it works out....our six month lease ends in Feb and I don't want to live with my MIL or renew our lease! The month to month rate goes up $300 a month!

In my experience, it's really kind of crap shoot on how long it will take. Our house was a short sale, and I think it took 1.5 months from offer to closing. Our best friends are short saling their house, though, and it's been 10 months since they got an offer with no end in sight. It's really dependent on the bank, so it's hard to say how long it will take...
