I found out last night that a young man from my home town, Jeff Bauman, lost the lower half of both of his legs in the explosions. He was there to cheer on his girlfriend. I didn't know him personally because I stopped going to the public schools in my town after 5th grade, but I found through facebook that we have lots of mutual friends. He was working part time at Costco so I'm guessing he doesn't have the best health insurance. Some friends have set up a fund and my husband and I will donate as generously as we can... but I just wish there was more we could. I feel very helpless being so far away from Massachusetts (we live in TN now). If you have seen the picture of the rescuer in a cowboy hat pushing a wounded man in a wheel chair that's Jeff. The man in the cowboy hat, Carlos Arredondo, basically kept Jeff alive by pinching his femeral artery until they could get him extensive medical care. It just breaks my heart that what should have been such a happy day ended with so many tragedies.
