DH and I reached a HUGE milestone today, he threw out an older pair of his underwear because they had holes........ In almost 11 years together this is the first time he's chosen to ditch a pair! Lol!!! What is it with men and ratty under?

Why only complain about the ratty drawers? DH has shirts that he's had for at least 20 years that he still wears. They have a billion holes in them.
At least I've made it clear that I won't be seen with him in public in them...but still...I've never seen him get rid of any piece of clothing!

Haha, love it! My husband is still hanging on to shirts from high school. We're almost 30! I guess you have the luxury of never getting rid of things when you're still the same size as you were in high school. Unfortunately I don't have that luxury!

@MaryM: I've put a one in one out t-shirt rule. You get a new one, throw out an old one

Dh told me he needed new jeans, however his jean drawer was overflowing the last time I put laundry away. I said "we can get you new jeans, when you get rid of the old ones you never wear." The only way he would clean out his drawer

@prettylizy: DH would HATE that.
I'm not sure he's ever bought a t-shirt (or any shirt other than dress shirts). He works in the restaurant business so every beer and liquor rep that comes his way is dropping off shirts.
At least he's started being open to giving away a lot more. Though I'm sure at some point my brother is going to say "Enough with the Guinness shirts already!" I think we've given him four this year.

Ha!! I throw out DH's. He doesn't notice. Same with the white undershirts. I buy more and toss the old ones. He does notice and thank me for that.

I wish I had this problem!! DH throws out everything, immediately, if it gets the tiniest whole, scratch, or stain! Drives me crazy!!!!

@autumnlove: YES to the nasty old undershirts.
It drives me crazy. I try to hint to him all the time we should get him new ones but nope. Maybe I just need to buy new ones and replace them myself!

Fortunately my DH is awesome at throwing out underwear, undershirts, socks. What I don't understand is how he gets holes in them so quickly?
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
Ahahaa. My DH is actually the opposite. Like @cmomma17: he gets rid of something if there's the teensiest thing wrong with it!
I'm the one that wears holey socks!

@MaryM: ugh those type of free shirts are my nemesis. If it came for free there is a reason!

@Smurfette: I do the same thing with undershirts and boxers.
My husband has every single t-shirt he has ever owned. I always joke that one day I am going to ditch all of them except the *three* he wears on a regular basis.

Is this just a man thing? Haha. Every once in a while DH asks me to bring him a pair of underwear while he's in the shower, and when I bring him one of the pair in the drawer he says "Oh, no, not those one. Those have holes/broken elastic/stretched out/etc." So then I toss them but he gets upset! Look dude, if you're not going to wear them, we're not keeping them around. I don't have empty space in our drawers!

@Smurfette: @septca: same. One of the perks of being the laundry doer is that I can toss things that look terrible.
I toss holey t shirts too, but I have his permission to do it.

Hahah! I know! I control his wardrobe now so I get to throw out and replace anything I want! He seriously has had articles of clothing for over a decade!

Haha milestoooooone!
We reached that milestone the day DH put on a pair of shorts with a hole in the crotch...and then realized that his underwear had a hole in the same spot. We're classy around here.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@MamaG: Yes on holey socks!! how does that happen so fast and frequently?!
pomelo / 5509 posts
We haven't reached that milestone yet. My DH still won't throw his holey boxers out, and if I threaten to do it, he gets mad. I'm like dude, how is this underwear doing it's job if your junk is hanging out of the giant hole in the crotch!?!?!
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
@IRunForFun: oh my goodness, yes. My husband loses his mind if I throw away underwear. He had two pairs with the crotch literally completely gone & I was like why even wear underwear? He was so mad when I threw them out
pomegranate / 3383 posts
Hahaha...SO TRUE!!!
If I'm folding my husband's laundry and I find a hole in his socks or underwear, I'll rip them so they're unwearable. Otherwise, he would never throw them out!
papaya / 10473 posts
Congratulations! haha! I'm so jealous. My husband still has every t-shirt he's ever gotten since probably the 9th grade still in his possession. WHY.
honeydew / 7811 posts
@Bookish: yes, holey socks are awesome! I mean the rest of the sock is still intact right?!

What is it with men and holey underwear???
@grizz: My husband complains about not having any shirts to wear and I always point to the mountain of tshirts in our closet that he refuses to wear. It's insane.
coconut / 8475 posts
@prettylizy: I throw out like 2-3 pairs of boxers everytime I do spring/fall/winter cleaning of the closets. He doesn't know and I am NOT going to sit around and wait for him to do it himself (it'll never happen). Kudos to your man! Let get some fresh underwear!
coconut / 8475 posts
@grizz: were some of them free? My husband won't throw out anything he ever got for free. He's like, "but they were giving them away at that one race in 2009!" Dude, seriously...
papaya / 10473 posts
@CupQuakeWalk: Yes, lots! I'm always like, why do you need a church camp 2001 t-shirt with a snow man on it? What occasion are you going to wear this shirt for?
