Hellobee Boards

There's a Catholic retreat center right near our house - they have day-long retreats for married couples and also individually for men and women. We haven't gone, but I've looked into it - the couples one is $70/couple (runs from noon to 7PM) and includes dinner!

ETA: We live in the greater Boston area - not sure if the cost varies by region, but I'm assuming it does.

Has anyone found any good workshops that aren't religious?

We participated in a retreat this weekend and it was very helpful. It's only an $80 registration fee --an unspecified donation at the end is requested- and is Christ centered. Well worth it for our communication needs.

I would love to do something like this but DH would never agree to it. He woyld no doubt think the counsellor was "an idiot" (he thinks most people are idiots) and pull apart everything he/she said. He is an evangelical athiest, too, so anything vaguely religious wouldn't work for us. Its a shame, really.

Oh I would love to do something like this. I think DH would be on board as well. I'm going to look for something secular in our area, although I think we might be better off going to a counselor like @grizz. It would also be for maintenance but I think we could really use it.

@grizz: How did you find the counselor? Did they seem to think it was odd that you weren't having problems? I've thought about something like this recently, but didn't even know it would be a possibility if we weren't fighting or anything. We never fight, just feels like we've drifted apart a little bit and are having a harder time communicating post-kids.

We were thinking about doing a Gottman one... we got a card in the mail advertising it (since I'm a therapist). I think it's a good idea.

@shellio: I know you asked Grizz but I'll answer from my experience - the counselor we go to is a service provided by my work, and it was not weird that we didn't have major issues. We had like you said just drifted apart after having G. We've only gone I think 4 times and it's already made a huge difference. We are going to go every other month for the foreseeable future just for maintenance and to check in.

@Bookish: @grizz: Thanks!! I am going to look into anything like this offered through my work - if not, good to know that we can just find a counselor and go!
