While checking out cnn today, there was a video about Kourtney Kardashian pulling out her baby.

I know there was a post about this when the baby was born, but apparently last night the episode of the birth aired on TV. I was really surprised to see people's reactions. I understand that not every woman would feel comfortable with pulling out her baby, but what is wrong with Kourtney doing it?

So I posed the same question on my facebook page, and someone answered the fuss is not that she did it, but that there really nothing she won't do on TV. Thoughts?

I think I'm alot more bothered by the media than her. I think it's awesome to normalize birth, which in this country is not seen as natural but taboo and "don't talk about that here" kind of thing.
Plus there are multiple baby/birth shows out there, how is what's on them and this any different? Idk, from all the hospital birth videos I've seen I actually think hers is one of the most calm and normal. lol

I agree that the bigger issue is putting themselves out there on TV. Just because something is normal and natural doesn't mean it shouldn't be private.

@Arden: Yea... and the commentary by the cnn ladies actually made me feel kind of sick. I'm proud to be a woman and have the ability to grow a human and birth it. They mocked what she did (birth & pull her baby out) as some gross thing. "What the...." "cliffhanger..." "This could serve as birth control...."

@jholler25: I've seen birth videos where the whole family (dad and kids) were in the birth pool naked with the mom. In other cultures it's seen as pretty normal to have family around and very present for the birth. Here there's isn't much about giving birth that's seen as normal, we're much more "private" about it all.

@runsyellowlites: I agree. While I wouldn't want my extended family in the room while I gave birth, many families are very close this way and some women are comforted by being surrounded by their loved ones. Whatever works for you! No judgement here...

I don't like the Kardashian's and have never watched more than 10 minutes of a show. Yeah, she might be attention hungry for almost eveything she does but this over her other crap? I say kudos to her to showing this on tv. I know I wouldn't have the guts to do it. I would rather see this on the news than the news about her sister's sex video being released. Shoot, I might ask my doc about this when I get pregnant. If it was safe and approved by my doctors, then it would be kinda cool to say that my hands helped assist the baby out of the birth canal.
Yeah, it's not for everyone but, for me, I would consider it.

I feel like her job is to live her life on TV. I mean, isn't that her career? A reality tv star? If people don't like her, don't watch her show!
And as for pulling her own baby out, I did that....so I can't really judge. I think it is beautiful.

I think what bothered me the most was the reactions of media in some sort of grossed out fashion. I know the Kardashians are everywhere, but like other bees pointed out, I think this was one calm and tender birth experience. I hate the way the media portrays birth, and I thought this was really nice.

I like and watch the Kardashians. I'm in the "eh, they have jobs, they pay their taxes, they take care of their children and well, they don't hurt or kills others, if they want to blast their life on TV who cares!" I think it's great that they are such a close family (we don't see a lot of those anymore) and they all clearly care for Mason well. I did think the same thing as @jholler25 though when I saw Rob sitting that close to her lady parts!

I haven't seen the video but I have seen all the headlines. I agree it's more disturbing that they had this beautiful, private, meaningful moment with a full camera crew there. I mean, yeah what you all said that this is their life, so why not, but that's a bit weird to me. But, I don't like them and I hate myself anytime I actually watch them.
However, I have to say it's a lot more weird for the woman who let them come and watch and film her water birth. The Kardashians are used to being filmed 24/7. That random woman with the home water birth just invited some strangers in to watch, which I get since it was for their education and stuff, but then she had a full camera crew and millions of people watching. That was weird, since she isn't a reality star or anything. I felt like she must have really needed the money and it made me feel sad.
ETA yes, there is no way in hell my brother would be watching my birth. I love him, but he can come see me and my baby after it is out and cleaned up and in my arms and I have a blanket nicely tucked around all my parts. Same goes for everyone in my family, but especially the boys.

I agree that the main point here is that they aired it on tv with no real warning, not as much that she did it. (I think it's totally cool to be able to do!) But I do not want to see that much of ANYONE else's birth. Show me the before and after (clean), not the during.

I totally love the Kardashians, unapologetically. Thousands of people have had 15 minutes of fame - these people have been able to turn into a thriving family business, and they are really entertaining to watch. So much of their show is clearly fake, but obviously you can't fake these moments. I just watched the episode last night and it was really touching! Her birth was very real and if she is comfortable doing it on TV, more power to her.

i actually teared up when she gave birth! it didn't bother me in the slightest. yes they show everything on tv, but that moment wasn't about that for me. it was a beautiful birth and i thought it was pretty cool that she pulled out her own baby (for the second time). i learned something when she did it the first time, and i think the millions of people who watched her give birth learned a lot more about the birthing process than they probably ever knew too!

@Mrs. Bee: @coacheswife123: I teared up when she cried leaving Mason. She is such a great mom to that little boy - so much more hands-on than many celebrities seem to be! Mason is the cutest too - so funny! I also think you see a real side of Kim and Khloe when they play with him. Kim is SO good with him!

I read that Kourtney had a natural birth. I was so impressed by her composure. I have watched the video several times and also get misty eyed!

@missifu: I think when they say natural, they mean vaginal. She gets an epidural in the episode.
Anyone think that if she had been a "regular" patient, they wouldn't have let her pull her baby out? I feel like she's a Kardashian, she can do what she wants! Though her doctor seemed kind of awesome - he was concertedly supporting her perineum!

I lurve the Kardashians (I think they are so cute! Although, granted, this is a relatively new obsession) and I have to day, I was sobbing for the birth scene, I thought it was so beautiful! For me, it wasn't too much and I loved getting to see it...
