If you meet a parent at the park that seems nice and/or the kids get along well, how long until you ask for their contact info?
We just met a super cool mom and her kids at the park and I wanted to ask for her number or something, but my shy nature took over and I didn't do it. 
Meeting anyone at the park is rare around here, let alone someone we'd want to hang out with! This whole situation makes me feel like I'm on the dating scene - haha.

Hahaha exactly ! Probably not until I at least saw them 2-3 more times? Which is very rare here. It's so hard for me to mesh the right time where there are kids at the playground.

I have got people's numbers a couple times then our schedules did not work well or I waited too long to call and then it just felt awkward. NBD but it works out too. I'm not scared to be direct.
I made a friend at the one and only library story time she ever attended. It was just kismet.
I exchanged numbers with one of my closest friends 12 years ago when she was selling me shoes at Nordstrom.

@regberadaisy: Timing is hard! I was even thinking "ok, we'll have to come back next Thursday at this time and see if they're here." I was thinking 2-3 times would be ideal, too. It'd probably take me that long to work up the courage - haha. For DDs sake I'm trying to be more outgoing, but it's so against my nature.

@fussygal: yes, exactly! I'm the same way. I've yet to see the same kids twice. Last summer when I was unemployed, I finally meshed the right time and saw a family with similar aged kids playing outside. My daughter, the social butterfly, begged me to turn around so she could play with the kids. So I did and awkwardly talked to the parents. Lol I definitely tried a few times taking walks at the same times to catch them. Of course, that happens exactly to plan with a toddler and baby.

It does feel like dating again! Last week we were at the optometrist (DH had an eye appt and I came with the lo's to help pick out glasses after) and sat in the waiting area with another couple and their kiddo. The wife and I hit it off really well so when I was leaving I asked for her info (we friended each other on FB). I was hesitant but told myself to put my big girl panties on and ask. Who knows if it will lead anywhere but you never know. In most cases, I'd bet the other person feels the same way and is grateful to be asked.

How about handing them your business card? Saying something like, "friend me on Facebook! We're always looking for playmates to meet at the park!"

I had this happen today! I helped a gal close her trunk at the kids consignment store, she had her handsfull and I was just leaving. Then I saw her again (small town) at target, in the bathroom. I had actually left my phone in the stall and she found it! Ive actually seen her once or twice before. Like I said, small town: I should have asked her name!

I do it pretty quickly, especially if I find out that the person lives in the neighborhood. We live abroad, so anytime I meet people who speak my language, I try to capitalize on it since it's hard to meet locals.

@fussygal: I met a mom at an indoor playspot and asked for her number before we left that day! Who knows if we ever would have seen each other again. 
We've become really close and have play dates a few times a month
