If you had your membranes swept to help induce labor, did it work? How long after did you go into labor? Thanks, mamas!!

It didn't work for me. I had my membranes swept at 40, 41, and 41.5 weeks along and still made it to my induction with my 2nd at 42 weeks.

I had it done but alas nothing. Was induced at 40+5 but I was only a loose 1. You are a 3 so I have more hope for you.

@CatchAFallingStar: It did for my sister. I am typically the kind of person that doesn't believe these things but she was stalled at 4cm for hours and after the membrane sweep, she was at 9cm 30 minutes later.

My OBGYN does not do this. She said that studies have only really shown that it helps (and she said marginally at best) is when babies are overdue or when you are in active labor and not dilating.
Hang in there, Mama!! The last few weeks (or are you at days?) are the worst!

I had it done at 39+4 and was admitted to L&D that night! Or rather early the next morning. I was already in early labor that had started that morning though, so we can either credit time, the membrane sweep, or shopping at Costco for kicking things into gear into active labor!

Had mine swept at 41 weeks + 2 days. Worked like a charm. Went into labor naturally that evening. Good luck!

Had it done at 39 and 40 weeks. Did not work for me. Was induced 10 days late with a completely closed cervix.

Swept at 39 week, went into labor early morning of 39+2 after being crampy with a lower back ache all day on 39+1.

@CatchAFallingStar: I had my membranes swept at 39w1d, was in early (but manageable) labor the next day, went to the hospital that night and had the baby less than 48 hours after the sweep.
I had made NO progress until my 39 week appointment and I was finally dilated to "a good one cm" and my OB did it. I was going for and ended up having a successful VBAC.

I would say it worked for me. I had a sweep 2 days in a row and my water broke the evening of the second sweep.
Having said that, my midwife said it's not likely to put you into labour unless your body is ready.

@CatchAFallingStar: I was hanging wide open at 4cm dilated and 90% effaced, too. Baby will come when baby is ready, unfortunately!

Worked for me! I had already started losing my mucus plug that morning, went in at 1pm and she swept my membranes and told me some cramping might result (even if it didn't start labor). The cramping became stronger and stronger until I realized they were contractions! Water broke at 7:30 pm and DS was born at 4:35 am! But like I said, my body might have been starting things already, but I think it sped things up! (I was 39w5d)

@CatchAFallingStar: I just had this done at my 40 week appointment. It hurt so bad! Nothing yet but it's only been a couple hours. I was 3 cm and 70%effaced.

My midwives said they'd encourage it after 41 weeks, but not before. One risk is premature rupture of waters, and if they are ruptured more than 24 hours before labor, you risk infection.
That said, I went into labor at 39 weeks, and didn't have to make the call. If I would have gotten to 41, I likely would have considered it. I felt SO pregnant, and just so ready to have the baby.

I was 3cm already, 39w 2d, first baby. I went into labor that night! Everyone had told me not to count on it speeding things up.

@Peasinapod: I was 3cm at 38w 6d. I'm now 39+3. I'll be 39+6 for my next appointment. So if I have it done then, maybe it'll work like yours did!

Yep worked for me the second time. I went into labor about 7 hours later.

At 39 weeks at my regular appt (Monday) I was 2-3 cms dilated and had my membranes swept. K was finally born on Saturday.

I had so many interventions that I'm not sure what worked. I had mine stripped after the water broke.
