Does a tan suit work for men's cocktail attire? We have a wedding to attend this weekend and the rehearsal dinner invite specifically noted cocktail attire. DH has a dark gray suit that he'll wear for the wedding, but the only other suit he has right now is a sandy/tan color.
Do I need to go get him another suit?

Yes, wear the tan suit since that's the only other color he already owns. Since tan is light, I'd try to wear a lighter color or bright dress w/ neutral accessories to compliment.
If you have time to get another suit tailored go with navy.

I think the tan suit is fine. But I also think it would be fine for him to wear the dark grey suit to both the rehearsal dinner AND the wedding! (That's what my husband would do since he literally only owns one suit)

Tan is totally fine! My husband works at a job that requires him to wear a suit every day and he owns two tan suits.

For cocktails, unless it's the summer, I think tan might be too light. I'd have my husband wear the same gray suit, and maybe change up the shirt/tie.

tan is fine! but he can also wear the suit twice, with a less formal shirt for the rehearsal dinner

Thanks all! I think maybe we'll shoot for him to wear the gray suit both nights, just with different color shirts and ties. I know that the wedding is also very formal. I think that a tan suit is okay for certain weddings and summer-time. And we're in FL, so that helps! I'll have him bring the tan as a backup.
