.... DH for my shoe size.
Umm, why? I hope she is not getting me shoes for Christmas! We do not have similar style AT ALL and well, aren't shoes a weird gift???

Could it be for slippers or something? That seems like a more standard MIL present than shoes.

@cmomma17: awkward... I hate when my MIL tries to buy personal items like that...

Haha - sorry. Like others said, maybe it's slippers. My MIL buys me a pair of pajamas every.single.Christmas. Wonder what I'm getting this year?

This sounds like maybe not the worst problem to have? I think most inlaws don't get anything for their kids' spouses...

My MIL asked my husband for mine too - but it's for slippers. Which I'm pumped about..I love getting slippers!

I actually wouldn't mind some slippers! We shall see though! She asked for a Christmas list and I gave her one but it didn't include slippers or shoes!
Last time she asked DH for my size was when she bought me a NIGHTIE for my bridal shower. Now THAT was awkward!!!!

Hoping it's for cozy slippers! MIL once gave me a dress for Christmas. I wouldn't even wear it to a funeral- it's best suited for a depressed nun circa 1990. People should attempt clothing or shoes unless they're super close to you, it always ends awkwardly.
@fancyfunction: make a creepy comment about how your DH will love to see you in the new pjs when you go to bed... That'll be the last set you get

@cmomma17: MIL once have SIL a leopard print nighty for Christmas... Awkward! SO was do embarrassed seeing her open it! Have you worn the nighty?? Does SO know which one his mom gave you? Mine would make me burn it or give it away lol

@mrs. bird: DH saw me open it! He laughed so hard, and then got made when I wanted to throw it out. It was SO not my style to begin with, but I'd also NEVER wear lingerie bought by my MIL!!!

@cmomma17: my husband's GRANDMOTHER gave my lingere at my bridal shower in front of 50 people. I was horrified.

@mrbee: we must live in different worlds, i've never heard of inlaws NOT getting their kids' spouses gifts!

@mrbee: My MIL and my parents always buy Christmas/bday gifts for the spouses. Even for the SIL/BIL's (for x-mas anyway).

@mrbee: my MIL gives gifts for both!
Maybe it is slippers.

@cmomma17: At least she's asking for your size!!!! My in-laws just buy me clothes that are TOO BIG for me!!! Apparently they think I'm bigger than I am!

@fancyfunction: @Leialou: @jmarionsmith: Wow! That's very different...

@mrbee: my MIL would never refer to me as her son's spouse! She calls me her daughter! She gives me gifts, birthday, Christmas, even Valentine's day one year!

I get birthday/Christmas gifts from my MIL, too! usually cash these days, but she used to get me clothes, shoes, etc.
@cmomma17: maybe you can exchange/return? "oh they must run big/small, I had to exchange them"

@mrbee: My parents always give my hubbie something for Christmas or his birthday. My ILs on the other hand are not the gift giving type.
honeydew / 7811 posts
@mrbee: it is. I have the best in-laws ever. They even moved from TN to VA just to be close to LO. Seriously.
So I always make sure my parents do stuff for DH so he feels like he has awesome IL's too!
grapefruit / 4278 posts
@mrbee: Huh, I have to agree with others, my ILs gift me for Christmas and birthday and my parents gift DH also. I don't really know anyone who's ILs don't gift for at least Christmas.

@kiddosc: I don't know anyone who does!! I guess we live in different worlds!

@mrbee: might be an Asian thing!
My ILs buy for me but my mom doesn't buy for DH!

@jmarionsmith: @mrbee: We'll see this year, but before all hell broke loose last October, my inlaws did gift for my birthday and Christmas. Last Christmas and my birthday, I didn't get anything from them.
Despite all of the awful crap that happened, my parents still gift my husband Christmas and birthday gifts. During LO's birthday party, they made sure to give DH his birthday present from them.

@MamaMoose: haha my friends boyfriends grandma gave her a very slinky leopard print nighty for Christmas once!!! She opened it in front of everyone and was mortified/shocked. So funny (because I'm not her!!)
@cmomma17: My MIL got me really nice north face boots for Christmas last year, maybe she will surprise you and get you something good? Fingers crossed, lol!
ETA: @mrbee: my in-laws give me just as much as they give my DH! My parents do the same for him!
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@mrbee: I get gifts from my MIL all the time. In fact, she goes way overboard.

@cmomma17: I got slippers from my MIL a couple years ago. they were not my style at all, but were from Nordstrom and kinda expensive so I had a fun time exchanging!
grapefruit / 4400 posts
@locavore_mama: I don't think it's an Asian thing at all... my parents give the hubs gifts and all of my Asian friends' parents give their SILs/DILs presents, too!
@mrbee: I think you might be getting the short end of the IL gift giving stick! All of my friends who have ILs receive bday and Xmas gifts from them, if not more! My ILs call me their daughter, too, and give me just as many gifts as they give to their two sons.

@littlek: @mrbee: my MIL is a huge gifter too! she got me a Coach wallet for Halloween (on clearance but still . . . Halloween? I'm not even her favorite person so you can imagine what it is like for DH and LO). the only downside is she never asks for ideas so it's not always stuff we can use.

@cmomma17: my MIL buys me daughter-in-law cards and crosses out the "in-law" part and writes "REAL daughter" above it. Every time. Haha! Unfortunately for me it's a negative thing
fingers crossed for some nice cozy slippers for you!!!
My MIL once gave me a full-length black wool coat with leather lapels. Size XXL (I'm a large in most coats, sometimes medium).
