I pump three times a day for three days out of the week with a Hygeia pump, which so far is going well and I'm usually able to produce enough.
Yesterday, I noticed milk in the tubing. I'm not concerned from the pump perspective, becasue it's a closed system, but I'm not sure how to get the milk out of the tubes? Do I need to just buy new tubing?

@sotofamilia: if it is a closed system how is milk getting in the tubes?
I used a lansinoh pump which was also a closed system and the instructions says not to wash the tubes so I just replaced them when I accidentally got milk in there.

@sotofamilia: I don't know how this system works but, can you remove the tubes from the pump or are they attached? If you can remove them, you can take them off and wing them around like a lasso over your head to get any liquid out of them. Sounds weird but it worked for my PISA pump.

I agree with @mediagirl if it's like a Medela. I put the tubes in a big bowl with soapy water, then I rinsed them and swung them around. You can also use rubbing alcohol which helps them dry. But if you can't do that, new tubing is pretty cheap too, at least, again, in the case of Medela.
PS I am jealous you have a Hygeia. I have pump envy.

@Mrsbells: good question! I thought closed system meant the milk couldn't get into the actual machine, but honestly I'm not sure.

I just checked the Hygeia website and I think I've been hunching over while pumping, which lets the milk into where the tube goes...in any event, I just went ahead and bought new tubes since they aren't very expensive.
@sloaneandpuffy: I've never used a Medela PISA so I don't know how it compares, but I would definitely recommend the Hygeia! It was what my insurance company provided, and so far so good!
