I'm so sorry for your loss. I completely understand that numb feeling.

I have had two miscarriages, the first happened naturally after the baby stopped growing at 8 weeks and I didn’t know and didn’t miscarry until 12 weeks. I bled a lot and ended up in the ER and needed a transfusion but I was told that is not a normal occurance. Unfortunately I retained tissue and needed a D&C about 2 weeks later. My second the baby stopped growing at 7 weeks and we found out a few days after and opted for D&C.

@dc yoga bee: I'm really sorry. MCs are horrific and traumatizing. But you will heal. It does get easier.
I did not wait and many women I know did not wait to try again. "for dating" seems silly- if you keep track of intercourse/ ovulation it's easy. But you may bleed a lot and for a long time (weeks usually) with a natural or cytotec MC.

I went the D&C route so don't have insights about natural miscarriage. My RE recommended that we wait a cycle to try again, but I didn't ovulate the first cycle in any case so it was a moot point. I know this isn't the case for everyone, but I do think I experienced a post-loss fertility boost, so I'm glad we didn't do much waiting.

If you have someone to help with your LO and can take a couple days off work, you should be ok. My advice is to have follow ups booked to make sure everything is out and nothing retained. Both times for me my doctor was on vacation and I was dealing with the ER and it was a hassle.

ETA: both times we waited for my period to come back (basically 4 weeks to the day of the miscarriage) and then tried that month. Both times didn’t get pregnant that month, but did the next cycle.

I opted for a D&C so I don't have any experience with the other two options. My OB said we could try again immediately but we are waiting for other reasons.

I'm so sorry... miscarriage is bad enough without the roller coaster you went through.

I had a loss at 7 weeks a while ago. It started by itself, I hadn't even seen a doctor at that point, even though I had a feeling something is wrong and kept calling asking if they can squeeze me in. Physically, it was no worse than a bad period and not very painful. I did take a day off work and go to the ER, but only because I thought there's a chance they can save the baby (the doctor still had no time for me). Which... doesn't work like that and was a mistake. I spent the better part of the day there, when I just wanted to be with my family. Even when they confirmed there's nothing they can do, there was a stupid paperwork hold-up and I could not leave for another four hours. Staying home would have been much better.

Very sorry to hear this I had a natural m/c although only at 6 weeks. It was uncomplicated and like a bad period. I passed the tissue and it was about the size of a kidney bean, which was emotionally more painful than physically by far. then it was over after a few more days of normal bleeding. If you take the miso like pp’s have mentioned, probably a good idea to make sure it works completely with a follow up scan—this is what my friends IRL have done. I would personally take the miso and not wait it out if you’re not spotting, I have heard that can take a really long time. It is the worst, hang in there.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I had a missed miscarriage in November and opted for misoprostol. Cramped for about 12 hours and bled heavily for about 2. Passed some additional tissue a day and a half later, but didn’t have any retained tissue at my follow up. The pain was bad, but manageable with a heating pad and Motrin. In terms of time off ttc, it took 3 months for my cycle to come back, and 4 months to start ovulating again. So even though we kept BDing, it wasn’t really doing much.

I had three natural miscarriages. One was like a period and the other two were like early labor.

One occurred partly at the hospital, which was utterly awful. Not being far enough along to be treated in L&D means dealing with unsympathetic and unhelpful people, unfortunately. The other two were at home. I much preferred that.

I bled kind of a lot with the two later ones, but the bleeding didn’t last a long time for me.

I have had three miscarriages. The first was the result of my second cycle of ever trying to get pregnant, and it was diagnosed around 7w. I took cytotec because I didn't want to have surgery. I read all these awful cramping stories online and was terrified to take it, and then it barely had any physical side effects other than bleeding. In fact I had so little cramping that I did not believe it worked. But it did.

After that I eventually got pregnant with my son. It took a total of eight months (fewer cycles) to get pregnant, including the miscarriage.

After my son was born I got an IUD. I got it removed when he was around 20 months old. I got pregnant pretty quickly a few months later without really trying. That resulted in a spontaneous miscarriage at around 8w.

About a year after the IUD was pulled, I started working with an RE. I skipped the IUI with my second round of Clomid due to a scheduling conflict and got pregnant anyway. That fetus did not develop appropriately, which we detected around 7-8 weeks. The RE recommend a D&C so they could analyze the tissue, and it turned out that the baby had Trisomy 6 which is incompatible with life.

I finally got pregnant again about two years after my IUD removal. It was my fifth and final round of Clomid and my third IUI. We were looking into trying IVF next. But instead I wound up pregnant with twins. They are due in July.

In my experience, the recovery from all three miscarriages was similar. It was the mechanism / trigger that was different. Emotionally the cytotec was easiest (discounting how I freaked myself out on the internet beforehand) because I took it in the privacy of my own home. I was not home when my spontaneous miscarriage occurred -- in fact I was in the waiting room for what was supposed to be my first prenatal appointment. And I got really really upset before my D&C and was basically a crying mess when they put me under for it.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss but please keep some hope that you will get your rainbow baby.

@dc yoga bee: good call on the percocet. don't be scared of the cytotec, it works how it is supposed to for most people, and D&C's and natural miscarriages both have their own sets of complications, too. I know so many women who have gone this route IRL and no one had any trouble. you're going to be okay, hang in there. I'm sorry you're having to go through this.
