I don't have both, but I always notice the girls section usually has more options. As a girl, I always wondered why there was so much pink and other colors were absent.

As for boys, thank you! What's with all the cargo and lack of colors?

Oh, and another boy pro: way less effort required on a day to day basis. Since my son is my second, that's kind of nice!

I only have girls, but why don't most girl shoes come in neutrals!! Most running shoes/practical shoes are pink and purple and rainbows and unicorns and sparkles and they light up. It's so hard to find a nice looking practical shoe for school/daycare that will go with everything that isn't a neon nightmare!

Boy Pros - Clothes and outfits are relatively easy. I buy him pants/shorts in neutral colors and we rotate through button down shirts, long sleeve shirts and t-shirts.

Boy Cons - The selection is never as good as the girls'. I HATE sports themed stuff and it's super prevalent for boy clothes.

Girl Pros - I love pink, there's usually a big selection of stuff, and it's easier to find cute girl stuff. Cute boy stuff can take more effort.

Girl Cons - I started out as a boy mom and I still find girl clothes confusing, lol. When do I use put bows on her? Why are they always falling in her eyes? Do I use socks with her moccasins? Why are dresses so awkward on babies and such a PITA in carseats? Am I the only one with these problems?!

@ShootingStar: I'm on girl #3 and have vowed no dresses til she's walking this time. I agree, they're just awkward.

@T.H.O.U.: @PinkElephant: I bought my kids matching Christmas outfits and DD's dress drove me bonkers. It had this little crinoline in it (because a 4m old needs crinoline??) and it was so hard to hold her because of the poofy-ness and to get her in the carseat. And then it seemed super awkward because it kept riding up and her legs were bare, but tights for that age are almost impossible to find. I kept feeling like I was doing something wrong, lol.

@ShootingStar: Agree about sports themed stuff for baby boys - yuck. Add to that all the things that say "Daddy's All Star!" (two mom family) and we are a bit limited with your average Target selection!

I have boys. I agree on the khaki, cargo, and navy. I don't know if it's a seasonal thing, but for boys this winter, it's all plaid. Both boys wore plaid for Christmas. It seems like their dress up clothes are either plaid or check. Target's Cat and Jack line has sweatshirts. It feels like such a rarity to see those for boys.

I'm relieved to only have boys because all of the accessories for girls seems so daunting and time consuming. My boys are easy to get dressed in the morning. I rarely have clothing fights with my big kid unless he wants a character on it.

@wrkbrk: You need to branch out! Have you looked at Gymboree?

@looch: I have gotten PJ's there! But not clothes!

@wrkbrk: I was a late adopter, but I've come to realize that I can make my life so much easier if I just stick to a formula that is a pair of pants and a soft long seelved t-shirt. My son also really likes vests, so he has a collection of fleece vests in gray, red, navy, hot orange, lime green, etc.

My son really loves the Gymster pants, they have a soft jersey lining and come in basic colors as well as fun colors every year. I just pick out a few pairs in his size and buy some coordinating long sleeved tees and he's dressed. I love putting him in orange or red pants because he's so easy to spot on the playground!

@looch: Vests ARE really cute! We dont have any of those.

@josina: Stride Rite has a nice even selection of girls and boys shoes. I bought four pairs of boy shoes there one night, all different styles, two for each kid.

I have one of both and agree with most of the pros and cons, but am really surprised that no one has called out the sizing on girls clothes as a con. My daughter can wear 2T tee shirts from the boys side, but is in 4/4T for the girls and the shorts are all way too short. My 3-year old does not need to be wearing booty shorts!

Button down shirts for boys that require ironing. I barely iron my own clothing. I am certainly not ironing an 8 month old's clothing. I put him in it for one wear and then donate it!

@mrs.shinerbock: Totally agree on the sizing for girls! My 50th percentile 3 year old is about to be in either 5T or 4 in the kids section, especially in pants.

@nana87: I love dresses, but once they start potty training, dresses get in the way and get pee on them!!

@nana87: yeah, my now 4yo started JK in September, so no dresses. She has to go by herself. Also - snow pants are problematic with dresses!

@tinyperson: huh. I don't think dresses have ever been a problem with my LO after potty training. Maybe because I taught her to hold her dress up? She also wears leggings or tights under, so she has to pull those down, hold the dress up and go. But she hasn't any problems doing it.

We also double up the pants on cold days, so some days she has to pull down two pants, poor girl. We've only had to use snow pants twice to school this year, but one time was with a dress and we just tucked it down into the snow pants, haha. They take the snowpants off at school for the school day.

eta: or maybe our dresses are short. I do let her wear dresses long after she has outgrown them length wise, because she's skinny and they still fit width wise. I guess at that point they are more like tunics over leggings or tights.
