When do you throw in the towel and proclaim that a nap is not happening?
My son has been in his crib since 12:30. It's 1:35. He's not napping. He jabbered for a bit. Then cried. Then kicked his crib slats. Then cried more. Now jabbering again. He's been up since 6:35. He's 15 months old, not 4 years old. WTF?

My LO is the worst with naps, she is 16 months old and often refuses to nap unless I put her in the ergo carrier and go for a walk with her

When this happens I shoot for a car nap. I throw her in the car and we go for a drive. 
she always falls asleep.

Sometimes rocking to sleep is still necessary. Within about 30 minutes if C hasn't fallen asleep, I will go rock him his down.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: if he's not asleep by 2, I guess we will go that route. Or jogging stroller. But it's sooo hot.

I'd leave him in there for 2 hours . Are there any signs he may be getting tired?

I'm sorry to hear that he isn't sleeping. I usually have her stay in there for 1.5-2 hours even if she isn't napping. At least she is having quiet time. Her naps usually last that long though. I do check on her since she has a tendency to go to the bathroom during that time. Good luck! So frustrating.

LO has started skipping naps every once in awhile since she turned 2. I usually wait an hour if I'm feeling well, longer if I have a migraine. She is always happy in there and will just sit there and play and talk to herself, so I don't feel too bad when I have to leave her in a bit longer.

The rare times this has happened I've also thrown him in the car after an hour.

@winniebee: Yay for finally sleeping! DD does this every now and then and it drives me nuts. I will usually take her out and let her run around for a little before trying again 30 min later.

That is some patience waiting out that nap! Once LO stands up crying then I throw in the towel. Is it possible he is transitioning to no naps already, or even later nap? Did he show cues that he was tired?

@winniebee: I usually let J squawk for an hour before deciding that he's not napping.
There have been days where he gets up at 7am and doesn't nap until 3pm. And you know by then, he naps until 5/5:30 as I'm getting home from work and making dinner but I still put him in bed at 8:30/9 and let him play/talk to himself before he actually goes to bed.
I think toddlers are all about pushing limits and seeing what they can get away with

I eventually started pushing DD's naptime later, once she started refusing naps at her old time. My normal fallback though, if she's really not napping, is to take her on a walk in her stroller. If she's tired, she'll conk out. She still can't resist motion for putting her to sleep.

That's why i set a 2-hr time limit. For us, if I took my LO out after an hour it would be game over for any kind of nap. He's a special kid though .
Also, I don't think this is a sign that he's ready to drop his nap..I think he's just testing his limits...and there's probably some major development going on too!

@Lindsay05: he just went from 2-1 -- he was super tired and I had to torture him to keep him Awake in the car at noon!! He better not be trying to drop them altogether!

Toddler for sale: like ranch dressing & puppies. Dislikes naps.
Three hours today. Finally went down at 3:30.
I refuse to wave the white flag. Kid was tired & I had stuff to do. Snuggles, bribes & more bribes usually so the trick.
