Prior to sleep-training, I purposefully nursed her to sleep. When she fell asleep, I would wait until she was in a deep enough sleep to unlatch herself from my boob and then try to put her down and pray she wouldn't wake up.

But after we sleep-trained, she would still want to fall asleep on the boob so if I saw that she was dozing off, I would break her latch and wake her up. Then I would continue feeding. But whatever happened, she would be awake/drowsy when I put her in her crib.

It varies from night to night- some nights when we finish nursing he is asleep, others drowsy, and nights like tonight he is wide awake. I just play some music, and stay nearby until he falls asleep. If he cries I pat his chest until he calms, but let him stay in his crib unless he is inconsolable- which is rare. I haven't worried too much about schedules and training.

Also my husband puts him to bed some nights instead- I may nurse him a little earlier and then my husband gives him a small bottle to "top him off" before bed. This worked great last week when my IL's were in town, we got a nice late date night, and didn't have to be home before bedtime. My MIL had no trouble getting him to sleep.

i usually put olive into her crib asleep or very drowsy. if she is wide awake, then i put her in her crib anyway. she typically rolls around playing for a little while, and then starts crying. i let her cry for a while and then go in when her crying escalates. then i nurse her a little bit more and she goes down without a fuss. i think she is the kind of baby that needs to let off a little steam through crying!

it's not an ideal situation -- with charlie we always put him into his crib awake no matter what and that was just so much better. hopefully we'll get there with olive soon.

I usually nurse LO to sleep. She falls asleep fine on her own without the boob in her mouth though!
