What activities are your elementary, middle, and high school aged into? Do you share in their passion?
I was all over the place with activities and lessons, but my brother stuck with basketball and was on at least two teams at any given time.

Well, I am not a mom yet but I am a nanny and I work with two elementary age kids (in addition to toddlers.) The boy does golf, basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming, chess and during the summer occasional 1/2 days of day camp (usually 2 sports at a time.) The girl does the same except no chess and tennis instead of golf. For this family sports are a big priority, one of the kids spends about 10 hours a week on the sport of choice during the school year, 15-20 during the summer.
The family I used to work for has two girls who both do tennis, ballet, swimming and art in addition to full days of day camp during the summer. Their parents are more of the type who enjoy a variety of activities and mostly want them to keep active and see sports as a fun way to socialize and stay healthy. That being said they have been in the same activities for about 3 years now so they are getting pretty good at them.

My 6-year-old does horseback riding and girl scouts. She loves riding lessons and we plan to get her a horse in a couple of years if she stays interested. As for scouts, she does it mainly to see friends from preschool that now go to a different school. We are the worst scout family EVER: we sold exactly one box of cookies. To ourselves. Oops. But I just remind myself that that isn't what she's in it for anyway.

My eldest (5 yo) is doing karate right now. In the past she's done ballet, hip hop, art and piano. I'd like her to take ballet again, but we may just stick with karate... i'll let her choose. We're taking up swimming this summer. Next year she'll do choir and keyboard/piano at school for sure.

My 10 year old does basketball, volleyball, swimming lessons in the summer. After school she is part of the school's safety patrol and plays the viola. She has done a few cooking classes that she really likes.
I played basketball and volleyball and love them both. I cook/bake a lot too. I wouldn't care if she did a different sport though. my rule is she has to do one physical activity a season. She gets to pick as long as she is active.

@Monkula: Where will you keep the horse? Rent a stall or at your family home/farm?
@SAHM0811: I am sure she looks ADORABLE in her gi!
@mrsmenow: When you cook with her do you guys pretend you are hosts of cooking shows?
@Cole: So you are taking care of little a Tiger and Serena! We decided tennis will be our family sport. Now I just have to learn the sport; DH competed in middle school.

Our boys (5 & 8) both take swimming and go to beavers/cubs (scouts). In the winter they took snowboarding lessons.
They'll continue on with the swimming and probably the snowboarding next season but I think we're going to pull them from scouts.

We would keep it at our home (we live on a farm). We would have to build facilities because the old barn/shed where my husband's sister had her horse way back has been long since torn down. My husband is not looking forward to the expense, but we both agreed that if she does continue to be so interested and committed, it would be good responsibility and practice for her. I'll have to get some lessons, too, as keeping one horse just isn't very nice and we'll have to get at least two. Also, there are no places to rent a stall very near us. We'd have to go at least 40 miles or so.
