Just when I think we've got things somewhat settled, C switches things up.
She is 4 months old. We put her in the crib awake around 7:30 and she falls asleep on her own great- huge improvement. Night time wakings and feedings are still an issue but I could live with it.
Now for the last couple of nights, she's really confusing me. She's waking up almost every hour from 11o'clock on, but doesn't actually cry or seem that hungry. At 11 I know sh should not be hungry and unless she is freaking out I won't feed her. From midnight on, I figure if she's crying for a couple of minutes, I'll go, feed her, we all go back to bed. But last night in particular she was just whining and fussing, not crying. She would do it for a few minutes, then just as I would decide ok maybe she is hungry, she would stop and seem like she was asleep. Well, not going to wake a sleeping baby, so back under the covers I go. As soon as I get comfortable, the whining and grunting starts again. At one point it went on for over half an hour, but literally as I stood outside her door, she stopped again. I finally did go in around 3 and she seemed hungry, are for 12 minutes and conked back out. Meanwhile in exhausted because I was up practically all night trying to figure out what to do. She never actually cried during all of this.
So I'm torn. On one hand, of course I want her to be moving towards not eating during the night (not forcing it but if she's ready, awesome). That's why I wait a few minutes before going in to feed her. On the other hand we were all up a lot last night and she probably would have gone back to sleep faster if I put the boob in her mouth, hungry or not. I don't know what to do really.
Anyone had similar nights? Advice? She's done this kind of thing a few nights now but last night was the worst. Or is this part of the 4 month sleep regression?
