So, I would like the option to have the baby sleep in our room, but we also will keep a bed in his room in case that turns out to be more convenient. I would like a relatively low key, low cost solution and was considering buying a Moses basket as an alternative to a bassinet. Then we can just use it as a storage / toy basket later. Does anyone have any experience with this? Good idea, or waste of money?

I have a Moses basket. It's convienient because I can carry my daughter from room to room, but she rarely sleeps in it.

We have a Moses basket. LO slept in it until we decided to co-sleep. Now we use it as a toy box. It wasn't cheap, but I really liked it

We have one and it's invaluable! LO is 5wks old and sleeps in there at night and for naps. I'll be sad when she outgrows it!

I guess it depends on the size of the baby at birth, but on average I heard about a month. S probably has a few weeks left yet, but she was on the smaller side.

We just had a cheap one that we used around the house and sometimes in the bed with us. It was really convenient and we also used it quite often for naps outdoors, which was a lifesaver when he was grumpy. We used it for at least 3 months.
I had a good friend who used one for co-bedding in between her and her husband for the first couple of months, so that can work, but our bed is pretty soft and my husband sleeps like the dead, so I wasn't very comfortable using it that way.
