@mrskc: and I have a friend whose OB said she's 5 cm dialated and she's not in labor! This was just at a check up. We were both surprised! The furthest I've heard before was 3 cm and my friend was hanging out at that for at least 2 weeks!

I was 4 cm dilated for more than two weeks before I went into labor with my second!

4cm is the most I've heard.
@hellobeeboston: @littleveesmommy: We're your labours quick due to starting out that far dilated?
ETA- Oh sorry, hellobeeboston, yours was a friend.

I was at 3cm at 36 weeks, 4.5 at 37 weeks and 5cm at 38 weeks. My water broke at 38+6 and I went into labor and gave birth at 39 weeks. My OB said she also was around 5cm for a week or two. Before that I'd never heard of anyone being that dilated and not in labor. I was like umm isn't 5cm halfway?? It was a little nerve-wracking haha.

I was 5 cm when I went in for my induction (before they started it). I think I was 4 the week before.

I would have said 4...
I was 4cm at my last appointment before labor. My OB said if I can back the following week at a 5 they would have induced me.

I was a solid 3cm for a day with broken waters and no contractions. I've heard of 4 but 5 is pushing it. These measurements are all estimates so it's really possible it could be a little off

I was between a 4-5cm at 38+5 when they decided to induce me! They knew it was pretty favorable so that felt fine with letting me go "early"

@mrsrugbee: I was a 3cm for three weeks and 4cm for several days! I never even went into natural labor!

I was at 5cm at 37 weeks and had him at 38 weeks. I was also almost completely effaced (almost no cervix) since 34 weeks.

I was a "a very full 5 cm" dilated at 39 weeks and ended up being induced 7 days later!

I was at a 4 for a week before my induction. My midwife told me she had someone right at the cusp of 7 before labor began.

these stories are crazy!! i always knew dilation didn't mean much, but this just proves it. i feel like i always share the opposite story of being 1 cm and then having DD 3 days later!

My friend was 5 cam for two weeks. At the last prenatal she had the doctor told her she was 5 cm, 90% and at +1 station. He was born several days later.

I was easily a 5 for two weeks before my second arrived. It was so frustrating having the doctor tell me they'd see me later that day or by the end of the weekend. When he did finally decide to come on my due date, it only took a few hours!

My sil was at 5cm for 3 weeks before she ended up going in to be induced (she was 2 weeks overdue with baby #2) they broke her water and 2.5 hours later her baby was born.

I was at 3 for a couple weeks, but my SIL was at 4 for over 2 weeks and ended up being induced (it was a very short labor!)

I had dinner with a friend last night, on her due date. She's already been a four for a few weeks!

At 36 weeks I was 3-1/2 cm dilated! Cue panic mode as I thought I'd be going into labor too soon, but hung out that way until delivery day.

4cm at 37.5 weeks. I had to be induced because of pre-e when I found out about the 4cm, so I wonder what would've happened if I waited to labor naturally!

I have a friend who was walking around at 8cm with her second, but not yet in active labor!

@kgbee: Good lord! I would be scared to walk anywhere, that baby was nearly falling out, no exaggeration!

I was 4cm for a couple weeks. I definitely felt it. It was like walking around with a bowling ball between my legs. Sadie was born with a nice ridge on her head too! I was 4.5 the morning of my induction at 40+2. Labor/delivery was a breeze!

My mom was told she was 7 cm dilated two months before she had to be induced with my brother. They wanted her on bed rest, though she was not especially compliant.

My old co-worker had to have a c-section because her water broke and she was "fully dilated" and labor never started. They waited like 10 hours, then tried to induce labor to start and according to her, nothing happened and when they were over 24 hours since her water broke they ended up having to do a c-section. Of course I don't know what exactly she meant by "fully dilated" (and didn't ask!), but she's a pretty straight shooter, so I'm guessing it was close to full.

@birdofafeather: I immediately thought of her when I read the title then saw who started the thread. Lol
Before hearing she was at a 5, the most heard of was 3 cm.
