Have you heard this?
My LO was sunny side up/brow presentation and I pushed her out after one hour of pushing (I tore in a star shape and had 30+ stitches).
My friend just gave birth and ended up getting a c-section because her baby was posterior. She told me her doctor said that most women can't push out sunny side up babies unless they have given birth before. That was news to me??
Anyone know anything on the subject?

I tried to push for 3+ hours but I ended up with a csection. A few of my friends had vaginal deliveries for their sunny side up babes.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I had a posterior/brow presentation baby, too! It took an epidural, an episiotomy and vacuum to get him out but he was born vaginally.
He was born with a collapsed lung, facial bruising and a subdural hematoma (first Apgar was a 2), so I can see why he could've been a csection.
I was told it was going to be difficult to get him out and was asked if I wanted a csection or to try pushing again.

My best friend just had her first child a little over a month ago. Baby girl was sunny side up but my friend delivered her vaginally. She needed an epidural to help her dilate more quickly (and cope with the pain) but once she had the epi, she was able to deliver her baby without complications. She'd been hoping to go med free but when her OB told her the epi might speed things along and decrease the chance of a C-section, she consented right away. I don't think she pushed for more than 45 minutes. (I'm a little sketchy on the details since she's in Okinawa and I'm in the States and with the new baby and the time difference we've not had a lot of time to FaceTime).
Not sure of if/to what degree she tore but I do know she has been up and moving around like there is no tomorrow. She has seemed to bounce back incredibly quickly.

My LO was posterior....I pushed for 3 hours until they called te specialist in and used the vacuum...then she came out right away. My biggest worry was having to have a c section after 27 hours of labor. Somehow, luckily, I only had a one small internal tear

I did not know this! Good job because S was posterior right until the last moment before I started to push! No one seemed too concerned, they just wanted me to wait a while once I hit 10cm to give her time to move, and she turned!

P was posterior, but we didn't know until she was out. I pushed for 40 min and had minimal tearing.

DS was posterior and ear out. I didn't have a c-section! It would have been easier on all of us if I had, but my OB ended up not making that judgment call. He wasn't in good shape though, and neither was I (my birth story is eerily similar to Rachiecakes).
Has your OB said whether or not it can be a repeat thing? I've always wondered if we have baby #2 if I'll be predisposed to that again.

I had a posterior baby. I pushed for an hour before he had to be vacummed out and I had a natural birth with an episiotomy...3rd degree tears and LOTS of stitches. Cord was wrapped twice around his neck.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I gave birth to R in June and she was posterior and my first child. It took me three hours of pushing on and off but I did it!
ETA- my OBGYN wanted to give me an episiotomy and I refused. I had second "and a half" degree tears instead.

DS1 was sunny side up. It took an hour of pushing, bit he was born.vaginally. I have heard this before though!

DD was posterior and I wasn't able to push her out. Had she been smaller it would have been more likely but she got jammed in my pelvis and couldn't descend. Csection for me.

A good friend of our ended up with a csection for this reason just last week after laboring for 24 hrs and pushing for 4 hrs.

Same as Oliviaoblivia here - I tried for almost 5 hours but he was a big boy and came down posterior crooked and got stuck. Doc actually had to work hard during c-section to free him from my pelvis.

My friends baby was sunny side up- though they didn't know until the very end. She pushed for four hours and had a pretty big episiotomy, with a similar story to rachiecakes, but since the baby was doing fine they let her keep pushing. She had him vaginally with a vacuum assist. She did have trouble healing from the episiotomy and wondered if the csection would have been an easier recovery.

My son was posterior and I was in labor forever and pushed for 3 hours and they said they were getting the vacuum but came back with the c-section team instead. He got stuck a nd they had to really pull him back out.

i know people who pushed out posterior babies. charlie was posterior and i pushed for 3 hours and ended up with a c-section. he was also big... maybe if he had been smaller i could have done it? i made very little progress though.

I have to friends who labored/pushed posterior babies for a long time and they both ended up with sections.

J was posterior and he was delivered vaginally but like most of the ladies above it took an epidural, a ton of pushing (over 2 hours), a huge episiotomy (3rd degree lateral) and a vacuum to get him out. I know I shouldn't think this but I feel like a c section would have been easier on us both.

My daughter was OP. the OB was able to rotate her just before delivery. I did three pushes. Being OP made my labor more irregular and slow to progress and made for the dreaded back labor.

@Mrsjets: I feel the same way about my J's birth!
@Mrs. Jacks: My OB gave me the epidural and tried to rotate him, but said the little bugger kept turning back around, haha
and I never ever felt contractions in my abdomen.
