Grippy socks are awesome. I love them as an adult.

I'd pick the office as the main play area. Wood is so much easier to keep clean! We have the foam mats as well and considered getting an area rug instead. I am so glad we went with the foam! DH and I were laying on them just the other night saying it was one if the best investments we'd made. They're easy to clean, keep the cold away, and double as a puzzle toy. The best part is they're cheap!

We have all HW floors. The foam mat wasn't enough as soon as LO could roll over. Currently, I have foam mat under a large rug in the family room. I've sectioned it off with a baby gate. Sho she is confined to the rug area to roll, crawl, play. I just put her on the hw floor this morning to crawl around and DH wasn't keen on the idea. She will bang her legs and head and arms, and it sounds so hard even on the rug area.

I think when she starts walking, we will just have to watch her and be more careful. I'll probably keep her barefoot and crank the heater. It's just too slippery (our floors are smooth, no texture at all). Oy, the baby-proofing - I'm not ready for doing the rest of the house yet!
