My 11 month old has had what looks like mucus in her diaper, but not always poop. She has a really bad yeast diaper rash right now, and is grumpy, but she'll play and then suddenly start crying, so I've been checking her diaper each time. I'm not sure if its the diaper rash that is causing the pain, or passing the mucus. Is this cause for worry? I've searched online, but can't seem to find anything helpful.

Does she have bad congestion? If so its probably just drainage passing through her system. If not, I would definitely call the pediatrician.

She does have congestion. Ok, I'll hold off on calling the doc and see how it progresses.
She has open sores because of the diaper rash. Is that normal for yeast rashes? I read that putting diluted apple cider vinegar is supposed to help, but she screamed in pain.

@Pumpkin Pie: oh god. so sorry that sounds so rough!! poor thing. on open sores i would think vinegar BURNS. where did you hear to do that?

@Pumpkin Pie: yikes, putting something acidic on an open sore doesn't seem wise. When my LO has a really bad rash I switch to using washcloths instead of wipes. I put baking soda in the water to rinse. I use coconut oil on her bum (after its completely dried) then lather on desitin rapid relief. This has worked within 24 hours for us in the past after days of a bad rash. I also put baking soda in her bath. Dab / blot instead of putting pressure to wipe during diaper changes.
Poor baby! Hope her rash clears soon!

@rosegold: I think I read it on b*by center? Ugh. I also read it on a couple other sites when I was looking up how to treat yeast diaper rashes. They also said bath with vinegar is supposed to disinfect.
@regberadaisy: Do you use baking soda +water during diaper changes? What is the baking soda supposed to do? Do you also use baking soda in the bath?
I've been using an anti-fungal cream + diaper cream (alternating desitin, and triple paste). Every time she has a dirty diaper and we do diaper changes she screams in so much pain, I have no idea what to do.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: doc said we can use an over the counter anti fungal cream + diaper rash cream, but since it hadnt gotten better, I was searching for what else to do.

@Pumpkin Pie: i woukd say it's the sores that are hurting her. have you considered neosporing or bacitracin?

@Pumpkin Pie: baking soda helps neutralize the acidity and ph balance. The loose diarrhea stools are very acidic.
At every diaper change I use a wash cloth with a small bucket of warm water mixed with baking soda. I dab/pat to clean the baby's bum then again dab dry with a dry washcloth. I let air dry for a few minutes then apply a layer of coconut oil the desitin.
When it's bath night I run a warm bath with couple scoops of baking soda. Swirl to dissolve. I let her sit in it for a bit then dry her off and repeat coconut oil and desitin.
Google baking soda and diaper rash and you'll find a ton. I found it when googling natural remedies for diaper rash when nothing was working.

I think passing mucus is supposed to be a sign of constipation, but I'd definitely as her doctor. Hope she feels better.

I brought her into to urgent care today because the sores look so bad, and painful, and was worried that maybe it was a different kind of diaper rash. Doc says it looks like burns from her loose stools, and we just have to let it heal and to continue the anti fungal +diaper rash cream.
I didn't know loose poop/diarrhea could cause such a rash!
