My DH told me to ask HB what they honestly think of this name.....

  1. Rainbow Sprinkles

    eggplant / 11287 posts

    @buttermilk: Golden Sunshine, maybe?

  2. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

I have heard much worse but it's not something I would ever choose.

  3. Mrs. Monkey

    cherry / 193 posts

    Like it!!

  4. gentlelunette

    kiwi / 698 posts

    Ya, nope.

  5. BKCaribBaby

    pear / 1672 posts

I know someone named Goldine...or maybe Marigold and he can call her Goldie?

  6. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

Maaaaybe Marigold and Goldie as a pet name just for the family to use?

  7. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

I actually don't HATE it. I think it's a super cute nickname but think as a given name you could do so much better so it's a no from me.

  8. ChiCalGoBee

    nectarine / 2028 posts

That was the name of my husband's dog when he was little. I personally wouldn't use it for a child!

  9. sunny

    coconut / 8430 posts

It sounds like a nickname -- both cutesy and ironic gangsta one.

  10. chopsuey

    hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts

Hahah cute name for a goldfish

  11. Rainbow Sprinkles

    eggplant / 11287 posts

    @sunny: LOL to ironic gangsta.

  12. rachiecakes

    coconut / 8279 posts

    I like it!

But I do know a Goldie that's a dog, too

  13. Greentea

    pomelo / 5678 posts

I don't mind it, but maybe the overwhelming negativity is influencing me (to like it more/ give it a chance). I like Goldie Hawn.

  14. CakeLady

    pear / 1657 posts

fashion/lifestyle writer jane marie named her daughter goldie - and got it as a neck tattoo...

as for my opinion, its cute for a little girl and a grandma, not so much in between

  15. lemondrop

    bananas / 9118 posts

I wouldn't mind it as short for Marigold. One former student is a Mariposa and goes by Mari for short, which I really liked.

@CakeLady: I was just thinking this morning about how much Jane Marie rubs me the wrong way! Neck tattoo reaffirms it....

  17. MrsADS

Supreme Court Justice Goldie? Dr. Goldie? Professor Goldie? .... sorry, it fails my "name test"!

  18. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

I love your style and unique names for your girls, but Goldie is a bit much for me!

  19. Rainbow Sprinkles

    eggplant / 11287 posts

@ms.line: @CakeLady: I've never heard of her, but your neck is a random place to get your child's name tattooed on you.....

I would totally name a second daughter Marigold and call her Goldie. And I am pretty pro-nickname-as-a-full-name, but I do have a bit of trouble imagining Goldie as a given name.

  21. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

I don't like it either, as a nn for Marigold as suggested I can do it as a name.

  22. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

Nahh.... It's okay for Goldie Hawn but would not name my kid that.

  23. travellingbee

    hostess / papaya / 10219 posts

Sounds like a grandmother to me. Not my favorite.

  24. wonderstruck

    pomegranate / 3791 posts

Not a fan. Apparently it's just me since no one else has said this, but I think Goldilocks.

  25. mrsrugbee

    apricot / 347 posts

Initially I thought of Goldie Haun but then looked at all the pet references and I totally turned me off. Plus, what if your daughter isn't blonde?

  26. yin

    honeydew / 7917 posts

Goldie is the name of our goldfish. Can't imagine it for a girl's name.

  27. cheesetomywhine

    pear / 1586 posts

I think it is cute as a nickname for Marigold like others have said but not as a stand-alone name.

Goldie by itself reminds me of the goldfish from Mickey

  28. californiadreams

    pomegranate / 3411 posts

I also thought of Goldie Hawn which makes me not hate it, but I wouldn't consider using it either

  29. Mrs. J

I think of a diner my DH loves.

  30. Trailmix

I'm clearly in the minority but I really like it! I think it's a bit retro/hipster, which I think is cool, but also sweet.

  31. MrsF

    honeydew / 7283 posts

    No thanks!

  32. kjpugs

I like it!!!! The cheese stands alone LOL

    No...

  34. reverie

    kiwi / 661 posts

I can't help but think your wording might have biased the crowd lol! I don't hate it... but I think it works for ages 7and under and 75 and above best and there is a whole lot of life inbetween!

  35. FannyMae

    persimmon / 1461 posts

@Rainbow Sprinkles: honestly.... it had actually crossed my mind at one point. One of the names I am thinking for my LO kind of directly translates to "golden", but I thought it wouldn't really work as husband's granny had a dog called Goldie

  36. Mrs. Peanut

    apricot / 347 posts

By itself? No. Marigold is sweet and Goldie would be an adorable nickname. Goldie by itself is like Goldie-locks and the three bears to me...

  37. sarac

    pomelo / 5093 posts

Terrible legal name - can you imagine a CEO named Goldie? Marigold, however, I could see, with Goldie as the name people called her, and she could go by Mari if she grew up and hated it. Although I personally cannot stand it.

  38. getjazzy

    persimmon / 1179 posts

    Not a fan

  39. katsupgirl

I like it! It's cute and I totally considered it yesterday!

I have a mutual acquaintance who named their daughter Goldie. Not joking. My friend joked that Goldie sounds like an old grandma in Boca Raton, FL.
