Gaaaaaah. My 2yo is SO, SO WHINY. it drives me crazy. Constantly, all day, she just whines and whines. She can't just ask for something - it's an all-out whine fest each time. I'm trying my best to be patient but today, I think I'm gonna lose my mind.
Is this a phase? Anything I can do to encourage her to use a normal voice when she wants/needs something? If I ask her to say it nicely, she starts bawling her eyes out.
Ahhhhh. I want a drink 
(and it's only 1045am here. Lol)

@pinkcupcake: we use the "I can't understand you when you're whining" trick. It really helps!

I do the "i can't understand when you're whining" bit too. But we've actually gotten to the point where when she's crying/whining i say, "Please use your words. What did umma say?" and she'll respond, "no whining"

DS is only 17 months and we have already started the "use your words please" to encourage his verbal development and to calm him down from his whiney/tantrums!

Oh no My 15 month old has started whining a lot lately, and it's so hard to figure out what to do about it because she doesn't really have any words to use. I've been trying to teach her signs, but she ONLY uses the sign for 'again', so she signs that for *everything* and then gets mad when I don't know what she wants. "Food, water, toys, milk, snack, upstairs, Daddy?? I don't know baby, learn some words!!!!"
I hope it's not a phase that sticks around through 2, because it's already driving me crazyyy

I know the feeling. We've tried the "use your words" and "I can't understand you when you're whining" with some success. But sometimes he's just going to whine. I had to step out of the room during dinner last night before I lost my freaking mind... then all I hear is "Momma, sit down!"

my 19 month old has been so whiney lately when she doesn't get her way, even her daycare provider has commented on it. She's been "off" all week...soooo hard to deal with.
