No experience to add, just that Hubs and I have talked about this, and we'd be comfortable having a nanny with a baby in our home.

i would definitely feel more comfortable if it were in my home because at her home she could be doing chores and her own things.

i'd do it if it were significant savings. plus a built in playmate!

@mrs. wagon: Is this her first baby? I only ask because at 4 months post my baby, I dont think I could have properly taken care of two babies at the same time

@mrs. wagon: wow, that sounds awesome! I do wonder if it's too good to be true, but maybe she just really needs the extra $?

My concern would be along the same lines as @mediagirl...

@Mrsbells: If she's had plenty of experience as a nanny, I'm sure she could. My LO isn't here yet, but I've nannied for infant twins in the past.

I think I would do it, especially for the price. There would be a lot more one-on-one attention than they'd get at daycare!

@mrs. wagon: Cool! Hopefully those references check out. I would also be concerned that LMW might take a back seat to her own child but if she is experienced then it would be less of an issue. Will she need to breastfeed or pump for her baby? I might not like it if she had to do that because she would be "tied up".

@mrs. wagon: I think it's different when it's her own child, though, because she might always choose her own baby. I've definitely seen daycare workers attend to their own babies first and that actually really bothered me now that I think about it.

This sounds pretty awesome; i was thinking about the same thing for our family, too.

Also would ask about sleeping and schedules. I think CocoBee had some issues with some of that (she wanted CIO for naps I think).

The only issue I can foresee (and she sounds great so far!) is differing parenting strategies. I know the mom I nanny for has ha bad experiences in the past where the moms would belittle her daughter and the mom and make their kids out to be better. They made my nanny mom feel guilty as a parent and vulnerable in her own home. It's something to look out for.

Obviously it helped in my situation that I was with them two years prior to having my own child.

My sister as well does this now for two families and totally loves it, I think with the right relationship it could totally work!! Good luck

@Andrea: You see it as a difference in her ability to be employed? At 4 months most babies would need a bottle still held for them. I was breastfeeding while also taking care of another baby and I don't think I was a worse caretaker because I was breastfeeding.

@Andrea: Nursing a newborn is different than nursing a 4 month old. I can see asking questions about juggling the 2 babies for feedings and napping etc. But I'd have been completely taken aback if someone thought you could only babysit if you were bottle feeding. Granted I was babysitting for free but it's a subject I'd word carefully because for me personally I'd be quite offended with that implication.

I'd be just fine with it! I would definitely prefer to have them in my home, though. Especially if she was doing laundry and light cleaning!

Also, I know a lot of people have said that you should be slightly concerned that she my show favoritism to her own LO, but I think it'd be the exact opposite. I think she would be more likely to let her own baby cry for a bit longer, as opposed to one that is more unfamiliar. But maybe that's just me.

I would definitely consider this if we had one baby. I think three babies would make it a bit too much, so we haven't looked for a situation like this. Otherwise, I'd check her references and go for it!
