My LO is very hit or miss when it comes to napping. He tends to take cat naps at daycare and then a super long nap when I pick him up from daycare (the car puts him to sleep). It feels like I'm constantly worried about his napping. Does anyone have a LO who was easy to put down for naps? It seems like a lot of people struggle with this, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

LO was a TERRIBLE napper until about 6.5 months. Then it just clicked. The more I read about naps, the more I see how common this is. A lot of people say they didn't get co sister naps until 7-8 months.

LO is a terrible napper. She catnaps at daycare and usually falls asleep on the drive home, and then I have to wake her up so she will still go to bed on time. She sleeps great at night but I feel like she needs more and better naps! I'm thinking of nap-training her over xmas (she'll be six months next week).

Naps are terrible for us at 5 months. She's just gotten to the point where she can nap in the car though which is good for when we visit family two hours away. She's been napping on me lately which I'm now trying to get her to stop doing because her night time sleep is suffering because she just wants to be beside me.
I did have her napping pretty well for about a week and then she rolled over and it kept her awake. And then she was sick for about a week or so. So we've had to start all over.

It's easy for us, but I SAH and it's much, much easier when you can keep them on the same exact schedule every day.

She takes 30 minute naps at daycare which drives me crazy. At home she is in a dark room with white noise going and takes longer naps. It's not hard to get her down, just to keep her asleep!

The key for us is to nap right at the 2 hour mark (for our 8-month-old); otherwise, it takes him a longer time to settle down. We also have to play quietly before he naps. Getting too excited will also affect how long it takes him to fall asleep or how long he'll whine-cry. He still whines for a few seconds when I set him down. I remember my oldest being the same way for a while too.
Sounds like naps are hard to control when they are in daycare b/c you're not the one putting him down. The way I see it is a nap is better than no nap, even if it's just one a day. My youngest isn't the best napper but he'll give me two short naps a day (1 - 1.5 hours). My oldest was an awesome napper and gave me 2-3 hour naps twice a day until he went down to one nap a day.

My LO is usually a cat napper...two naps 15-30 minutes each!

LO only takes 30-45 minute naps a couple of times a day, and then sometimes takes a good 1-3 hour nap in the afternoon, but getting her to fall asleep can be challenging sometimes. I hope she get's into a better consistent napping schedule as she gets older. She is almost 4 months old.

A little unpredictable but MUCH better than a few months ago. Around 5.5/6 months he outgrew the catnap (from 4 months - 5.5 months took 30 minute naps on the button regardless of what I did). Now he pretty predictably takes at least one 1.5 hour nap at home and then 2 other shorter naps (45 mins).
At daycare he takes a crappy morning nap because there is a lot going on but almost always sleeps 1.5/2 hours in the afternoon. The entire daycare is pitch black with music playing from 1-3 so pretty much everyone sleeps.

LO never took great naps until we transitioned to 1 nap at 14 months.

I broke down and bought a book called the No Cry Nap Solution... I hope it works.. the past few weeks have been AWFUL for naps. Nap training is starting!

@littlek: Do you think it's just because of the catnapping at daycare? I had a friend whose baby didn't nap at daycare so she brought in white noise and also hung blankets on the sides of his crib so he couldn't see what the other babies were doing....also asked for his crib to be the one on the end.

@buffalove: @littlek: Yes, so glad I'm not alone! Last night I got distracted and let her nap until 7 so I could do some shopping online and it took FOREVER to get her down for the night. But I feel so guilty, she's obviously tired from maybe taking 3 naps of 20-30 minutes all day. I've thought about putting her down as soon as I get home, but then DH wouldn't see her.

@littlek: Maybe even hang a light blanket (I know ppl don't want to put stuff in cribs....but even an A&A blanket might block hijm from seeing other babies).

We had a horrible napper too. She is 8.5 months old and still almost never naps for more than 30 minutes at a time. Just during the last few days actually, she has been napping for up to 1.5 hours in the afternoon, so this might *finally* be changing. She doesn't go down easily for naps though. I have to rock her. If I were to place her in her crib, she would just keep playing forever. As a friend put it "Skibobrown's daughter does not recognize the need for sleep." At nighttime she is much better, but during the day she would rather just keep on playing. At some point soon I know we're going to really need to address the nap issue, since I can't keep rocking her for naps forever. She's getting rather big for that, and once she moves up to the next daycare room in a few months she will need to go down for her nap alone in her crib...

@winniebee: I think we are back on track. He has taken an hour nap so far today. He had been on a nebulizer this week and the medicine made him hyper. He's feeling better so no nebulizer today and the better naps have returned.

My (4 month old) LO is not a great napper either. She takes 30 minute naps for the most part during the day but will often sleep for 2 hours or more in the late afternoon/evening which I am starting to think it might impacting her night sleep. Every once in awhile, I can get her to go back to sleep after the 30 minute wake-up midday but it is hit or miss. It is definitely comforting that this seems to be a fairly common issue!

@littlek: Oh good! If he was sick, then that definitely can impact naps. When T is sick he takes monster naps but I know many babies who won't sleep much when sick.

My LO is also not a great napper, though she's getting a little better now that we've sleep trained her. But she hardly ever naps for more than 45 minutes or so (she's 4m). I'm not stressing too much about it now since she starts daycare in January and everything is going to change then!
