I want to try switching to a natural deodorant, but the obvious concern is that they won't work well (ew). I've heard good things about La Vanilla. Anyone tried it or have other good recommendations?

It's so funny you mention this because just today I was talking with some mom friends of mine about his very thing. I am a smelly person and I miss my poison deodorant. Tim's of Maine is just not effective at all BUT I really like Earth Science brand Liken plant scent. They sell it at new seasons here in Portland and ill bet you can find it online or at whole foods too.

Lavanila is the one I use. I've tried what seems like every natural deodorant and I think it's the best by far. The texture is good and feels more like traditional deodorant. They smell really good too. I like the plain vanilla and passion fruit vanilla. It's fairly expensive but it lasts a long time.

I think Lanvanila is the best- but I still have to reapply later in the day. On days that I run, I use bad deodorant (Dove). I haven't found any natural ones that can handle a sweaty workout.

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago, and got tired of feeling stinky. I found the best deoderant ever. I think it's called Schmidts, and it comes in a jar. I can post a link for you tonight. I love it, I put it on after a shower and never stink.

I'm in the same situation. I used to use Tom's, but it just can't handle stinky runner sweat, and pregnant sweat trumped that so I went back to Dove. I'm interested in trying the LaVanila though! I might have to pick some up after work tonight.

I hate Tom's! I started using some stuff made by a local skin care line and it is by far the best natural deodorant I've ever used. They have an Etsy shop but they only ship to Canada at the moment Sorry...not very helpful!

I've actually found when I quit using deoderant or antipersperant, I eventually sweat less. Takes a bit to get used to, but I pretty much went without last summer.
I am back on the chemicals though, I can't expose my coworkers, lol.

You can actually get men's old sprice that is just deodorant no anti-perspirant. There are a few scents that aren't so bad. I use it in the mornings and then keep regular stuff at my desk just in case of emergencies. @looch: I agree that I used to be really bad but now that I don't use an antiperspirant daily it's not so bad.

@fussygal: My friend makes her own deodorant and swears by it!

@meredithNYC: I think I have the Ylang-Ylang + Calendula. Its sold at a grocery store near me, so I only had 2-3 choices.
I'm curious about the homemade version too! Maybe I'll try it eventually.
