We are on vacation, staying with relatives and DS is waking up every hour! After a it of an ordeal we got him to sleep and in his pack n play. After the third hourly screaming wake up, we brought him in bed with us. He continued to wake up every hour. Naps are bad too. I am so tired and we have two more nights here.
Any tricks/suggestions to help LO sleep away from home???
FWIW (not much apparently) We have his sleep sack, lovey, and white noise...

Is the room as dark as his normally is at home? Could you put towels over the window to make it darker? And maybe by his second night he will be more comfortable there and sleep better naturally.
C is hit or miss with sleep away from home. Sometimes it's better, sometimes much worse.

i don't have much advice, my kid is a terrible sleeper when we travel, and always has been. she is 21 months now, and two weeks ago she slept for a total of like 6 hours when we were visiting family. it was awful.
my best advice is- try not to worry too much about waking other people up (easier said than done, I know). i think people are pretty understanding, and often will sleep through more than you would suspect. ask if family minds taking him in the morning so that you can get a little extra sleep. and take advantage of the stroller nap/baby wearing nap. When we were on vacation over the summer my daughter took almost all of her naps in the stroller- we'd just go on a family walk at nap time and she'd zonk out. we also moved back to two naps a day, because she was so tired.
i think when you are on vacation you just have to roll with it. when you get home be really strict with your schedule and routine, and i'm sure he will adjust back quickly.

I think with travel it usually screws up sleep. I think the best you can do is hope the vacation isn't too long.
For my son, it was due to overstimulation/excitement. Sometimes I could improve sleep with an extended, quiet bedtime routine, but the improvement was small.

I'm sorry - no help here - just commiseration. Dd is a rockstar sleeper, except when she's in a hotel or somewhere new. Then she turns into a night terror ... So much that we stopped going away with her. We went on a few trips this summer and it was brrruuuutttalll. Nothing we did made it any better. I hope as she gets older and we explain to her where we are going it will get better.

I think we'll do more staycations - especially if we want to rest.

@CakeLady: not much advice, just commiserating... we went through this last summer on vacation and it was pretty bad. I second what Silva said about having family take over a little in the daytime if possible, so you can rest!
For what it's worth, my family's totally forgotten how awful it was and it's the good parts of the trip that stayed with us. I was ready to pack my bags and go home several nights there, but now I think I'd totally go again!

@CakeLady: so how has it been? I'm going to be in the same boat soon, and I'm completely freaked out about it!!! How old is your LO? I plan to try to recreate his sleeping environment at home but I really don't know if it'll help.....

We had trouble with our lo sleeping in a new place until she got a little older (like 2 years old). It usually got easier by the 3rd night, which is typically when we were leaving!!
