LO (19 months) has been a big kid since he was born. He's pretty proportional with height/weight (95th% for both), but the best way I can describe his actual body type is that he is built to play football - tall, very broad shoulders, ample toddler belly, smaller on the botom! He can still wear some 18-24 month pants surprisingly, but I'm having a hard time finding shirts for him. All of the toddler sizes seem to be cut so much more narrow than baby sizes. I bought him some 2T polo shirts but they are really tight in the shoulders/belly but then super long on him, so I don't think a 3T would be any better. Any recommendations for brands that run "wider"? I've had some luck with Gymboree but am struggling beyond that.

My DS is a big boy as well (99%H, 90%w), but very slender, so I can't talk from experience there. I find that Carters runs really wide on my son, wider than most. Have you tried them?

My son is also 19 months and is in the 97% for height, but around 50% for weight. He is more slender than your son, but I find that his shirts are pretty baggy, so they would most likely fit if he were a little plumper. I find 2T much tighter than 18-24 months, so I prefer 18-24 months. I can barely get 2T on him, even though he is slender. Weird! Which brands do you use? As mentioned above, I, too, find Carters runs pretty wide. Have you tried those?

Sounds like my son too! DS is 19 months old as well. I find that for shirts to fit width size, they'll be a little long. Right now he is in 3T - Gap is a little big but works, Gymboree fits perfect, Target and Old Navy are hit or miss. Sometimes the 3T is too narrow for him. Bottoms are mostly 3T with a few 2T thrown in.

@Mamasig: Aren't the pants super long? 3t size, I mean? Even the 24 mos. pants are slightly long on J. I can't imagine him wearing 2T or 3T pants, yet. That's good that you found clothes that work!
I hate that all the sizes run differently by brand, just like adult clothes. That's why I try to just stick to one or two brands.

We've tried a few Carter's 2T pieces and they seem very narrow, but maybe I need to compare a few things in the store - amazing how different pieces can vary within the same brand!

@Jenn23: Yes, I know for us even 2T pants run really long. And he's really tall like your guy. Luckily I think boys look cute with their pants cuffed!

@SeptMomma12: I cuff a lot of J's pants, too! It looks cute. Yep, I can't do 2T, because they are super slim and tight on him.. I just use the 18-24m right now.

@Jenn23: Yes, everything runs long! My mom hems his pj pants. I usually roll up his jeans and pants. His shorts are past his knee. If it looks too funny, I return it. It's a pain, but I hate for stuff to fit too tight. I live in the south so I started getting his summer clothes a couple of months ago. 2T would still work but no way it would last through October. I'm still waiting for him to slow down on growth!

@Mamasig: Oh OK. I was wondering if they would be long! So you have them hemmed...that's good. I wish I could sew, but unfortunately can't remember Home-Ec class, so I just roll everything.
