Yesterday as DH and I were leaving our of our driveway I almost decapitated my next door neighbor's small dog! To say this dog and another larger one on our cul de sac is untrained would be an understatement. The dogs run wild when not in a leash, they always leave their yard, and jump on people or try to a enter cars.

As I was closing my car door I noticed something scurry by a long the side of the door. Just when I thought it was safe to close the door again the small dog jumps in the doorway. I immediately stop pulling the door shut and start pushing it open. So after the next door neighbor takes their dog back they put the dog back on the ground. The dog ran out onto the street and I I had to stop and wait in the middle of the street looking for the dog before completely driving away.

Is it so hard to train a dog? If I did end up injuring or killing the dog, by accident, would I be liable for damages?
