I am in desperate need for some new clothes, I usually shop at Target/TJ Maxx because I don't like to spend a lot on clothes for myself. I will be able to get a couple of things for Christmas but I need some ideas of what to buy. What are some clothing items you're loving/want? I'm all about comfort and I'm pretty plain/simple.

I wear leggings and tall flannels from Gap or Old Navy a lot. With a lightweight vest and scarf from lulu. I got a couple nice looking sweatshirts from Nike recently too.
I just got 2 pairs of Hunters on major sale at Nordstrom. Those were on my wishlist.

Not sure where you live, but I love shopping at Dress Barn. I know it may seem like a store for older, professional women, but I find a lot of great, inexpensive pieces there. My mom always shopped there, and would send me outfits when I first started working, and now I'm in my early 30's and its my go to for office attire, and simple basics.
If I were you I'd try to build a basic wardrobe - comfortable pieces that can be dressed up/down and mixed/matched. Pinterest is a good place to look, I find that the boards for packing to travel really help, because the outfits are usually comfortable and versatile. Look for something like 2 week travel wardrobe in a carry-on, etc.
My last piece of advice is to spend a little money on yourself. I always splurge on pants, because when pants don't fit well, you feel uncomfortable and therefore look uncomfortable. Take the time to try on every kind of pant to find out which looks and FEELs best on you. For example, the pants from The Limited can be $60-$120. But I work in an office, therefore I need good quality confidence boosting pants. So I get 2-3 pairs of the same pants, in different colors. Then I go bargain shopping for shirts.

I don't like to spend a lot of money on myself either, but I've learned over the years which stores have sales and when. I love department stores, particularly Lord and Taylor. I have purchased a lot from them over the years, often at prices that are like 70% off the original.
I also learned that I do not like the way I look in leggings with a big shirt on top. I just don't have the body for it, no matter what size I am. I prefer to do full leg pants (not wide leg) and a fitted top. I also spend more on coats/hats/scarves so that I can just put one on over top and call it good. I also like the one piece aspect of dresses and I love a good skirt. I have very few rules, but I guess the main thing is to try on a ton of things, you never know until you try and some things will surprise you.

@youboots: how are old navy leggings? I'm still kind of new to leggings and want to try them but I generally hate the fit of their jeans (though I did almost love their rockstar jeans) so I'm wondering if I should look for leggings elsewhere!

I really like Zella athletic leggings and when they are on sale they are a great price. Athletic leggings are thicker and so i never worry about see through situations. They feel more substantial and minimize imperfections

I LOVE Zella leggings. They are thicker so I never worry about them being see through and The quality is great. I've had some for 6 years and they still look great and I wear a pair almost every day. They are also athletic so they can do double duty!
