I completely agree! We've been in TX for 5 years and our local group of friends is pretty small still.

Definitely! We moved to our town about 3 years ago and I still don't know anyone. I'm hoping to meet some people through a new moms group I just joined. When I was working, it wasn't a big deal but now that I'm home, I need some adults to talk to!

Being pregnant and having a baby has helped me to meet people and some friendships have formed from that.

We moved to a new town almost 4 years ago and I've had a very hard time making friends. I'm hoping to make some mom friends now that I'm home.

It is not only harder to meet at this stage, but it's also harder to maintain. Life is just so busy you have to really put the effort in to even hang out. I think college was easiest because people were always basically around.

I think it can be very hard. We relocated 6 months ago, and while we had some immediate BFFS in the area (since we knew them prior to moving), it's taken a long time to meet other people. We're just now getting to the point where we have some other casual friends, but it's taken a while to make those connections.

Technically, as an expat mom, it seems quite easy. There's usually an expat mama group in most locations we've lived in and people tend to be very friendly and excepting, just because most are used to moving frequently and having to meet new people. But for me, it's hard because I'm really shy and introverted. I really have to force myself to try and make friends, especially now since LO needs the interaction with other toddlers her age.

A lot of my close friends have moved away over the years and yes, it's very tough! I'm really counting on becoming a mom helping me meet people in similar situations though

I think it has been hard for me/us for several reasons. We live in an area where the oil industry is the main business and so lots of people move in and out and it is hard to maintain friendships long distance.

Also, because we got married in our mid-30s, we have always been in a different phase than many other people our age. When they were having kids, we were just dating. When we are now having babies, their kids are in elementary school. In college, everyone was experiencing the same thing so you had lots in common.

Lastly, my husband and I are quite liberal and we live in Texas where, although it is certainly possible to find like-minded people, it is less common. (Not that we only hang out with liberals or anything, but as far as making a strong BFF connection, that would be somewhat important.) Oh and we always lament that because we aren't religious, we don't get that church community that many people do.

Whew that was long winded. DH and I talk about this a lot.

YES. It's just hard to meet people without classes, clubs, etc. I don't have a huge circle of friends where I live and they're all either friends from high school or friends I've made at work. My parents' friends even now are all the parents of my friends from elementary school. My mom still has monthly dinners with the other moms that were on the PTA with her so I imagine we'll meet more people through our kids.
