Did you hire a professional photographer to take newborn pictures? Why or why not?
Trying to decide if they are worth the money. We didn't do it for DS #1, but are considering for #2.

We didn't for #1, and won't for #2. I prefer to wait on spend money on photos when they are more interactive, smiling, etc.
Hoping to lose the weight enough to do some family photos in the fall instead.

I love the newborn photos we got! It was such a special time that only lasts for a very short time. So I'm glad we documented it. Looking back, I probably would have chosen a different photographer, purely for financial reasons.

So happy we got newborn pics done. We got a great deal though with a recently moved photographer trying to rebuild local clientele. I wouldn't spend a fortune on it but I 100% think they are worth getting.

We didn't for our first - like @runnerd: said I wanted to wait until she was developing her personality. But I did for our second, because I really wanted to capture those early sibling, family of five moments. I'm really glad I did, she got much better photos of the two of them together than I ever could have. The solo newborn pics are cute but I love the sister and family pictures more. (So I didn't vote since I did one of each, no regrets either way).

I don't regret it for a second. I'm not a pro photog, but still...10 days pp, there is no way I could have focused well enough to even try. The session we did was 4 hours long! Mostly me feeding and changing LO trying to get him to sleep... I can't find a pic on my phone but they are tr best thing ever!

I did. Although my photographer is a friend and doesn't normally take newborns. She did it anyway though. She wasn't very happy with the way they turned out though and instead have them to me for free.

We bought some of the hospital photographers pictures which weren't great but they weren't expensive and there's just no substitute for pictures from the first 24 hours. We then hired a photographer to do pictures around 2 weeks later. Love them and have one from each set on our gallery wall.

We didn't for #1, and I regret it. We hired someone for #2 due mid-summer.

We bought the hospital photographer's newborn shots, and then postponed at-home pro shots until 6.5 months. I have to say, professional photos at that age: seriously recommended. She could sit up, smile, laugh, make funny faces, make eye contact with the photographer, they were amazing and so cute. I'd do it again that way. But I am also really glad to have the hospital photos.

I did for #3 and #4 and I love them! I enjoy having high quality picures from a moment in time I won't get back. I never regret a professional photographer, even if I think I paid too much.

I did hospital photos for my first. They weren't spectacular but it was easy. With my second we will probably do that again but will also do family pictures in the fall since that's our usual. No regrets.

We also got the hospital photog pics. I love them! It was an 0.5-1h long session and we have them for both our kids. We also got their announcement cards etc. right away so we didn't have to deal with that either. Absolutely no regrets.

I have never regretted for a a second the money I spent on professional newborn pics. You forget I easily how tiny and perfect they are at a few days old so.I'm glad I have those pictures to look back on. I treasure the photos and DS enjoys looking at them now

I got them with my first and have no regrets- I love them. That being said, I decided not to do them with my second because the hospital newborn photos were good too and I think I would rather do a family shoot in the fall with the money instead. However, I am very nervous about this plan bc if the hospital photos aren't good this time I know I will be disappointed (plus I have some second child guilt that I am not splurging the same I did on the first).

Didn't get them, don't regret it. That said, I'm also a photo hobbyist and did them myself.

Didn't get them for number 1 but did for number 2. They were so beautiful that I really regret not doing them for number 1 too!!

We did them for both babies, and I don't regret it. We haven't gotten the proofs back yet for #2 but the ones for our first baby are precious to me, he was so tiny and they're only like that once.

We didn't and wished we had. I didn't really think about it ahead of time and was overwhelmed by cost and timing so we didn't get them. We are getting photos done for LO birthday and the person we are going with is really inexpensive. Had I known her ahead of time I would've done it.

I took my own for both kids. I'm no where near a pro, but the pictures I got were good enough. Could a pro have done better? Yes, absolutely. But I wasn't willing to shell out the cash when I could take ones that were acceptable for their purpose - birth announcements.

We didn't for DS1 (my cousin who hobbies in photog took some holiday shots for us when he was 3 wks old?)
We did for DS2 and turned it into a family session for the year too. I'm glad we did them!

WE DIY'd DD's newborn pictures! Very happy with them! With an unpaid maternity leave and diapers to buy we definitely did not and will not have extra funds to hire someone.

Didn't have them for DS
Spent a crap ton for DD to get them done. She is 5 now and I still love looking at them - worth every penny!!!!

No and I don't regret it...my sister took some nice photos and that's all I really need !

We did them for DD#1 and will do them again for DD#2. If anything, I would be more likely to do them with #2 because I love the pics of big/little siblings together.
Granted, our photographer is awesome and costs $100 for 75-100 digital pics. Makes it an easier decision!

Got for both my girls - the photos are amazing and worth every penny (though we were able to find an amazing photographer at a steal of a price). Zero regrets, but the second time was especially worth the sibling shots and both times, my dog got into the action as well!

We had them done, but I'm a photographer so it's one of my priorities in general.

well, i am a professional photographer and i made it a point to do a newborn session myself for each of my kiddos as if i was a client. picked out outfits, a special time, etc. i'm glad i made an intentional effort to do it.

Not really! The hospital had someone take pictures for #1. They were really good. For some reason they weren't doing it any more when #2 was born, but we didn't miss them. We took plenty of good pics ourselves.

No for DS1 and totally regretted it.
Yes for DS2 and totally love them. Worth it.

We got them, and they're great. We still love paging through the book, and they're so special. He was 4 days old.

we didn't do it. I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to. DH thought it was waste of money. I actually ended up taking my own photos which came out beautifully.

We did and I didn't regret it, but I sort of wish I had hired a photographer with a different style. I thought I wanted the "sleeping baby with a bow" thing but I've since realized that I prefer more natural shots.
Also, we ended up having to spend twice as much as we planned for our newborn shots because we bought a package that included a limited number of digital prints and DH (totally sleep deprived) gave the photographer a completely wrong list of the ones we wanted. We had to go back and buy the whole set of digitals to actually get the ones we originally wanted. It was like a $500 mistake.
