We moved in the last few months, and while I've picked a pediatrician,I haven't established care with them yet. E has had a fever over 102, up to 104, for 4 days now and I need to take him in.
Has anyone had luck scheduling a sick appt with a pediatrician you haven't established care with?

My ped will always see sick little ones as long as they accepting new patients and you have done the paperwork. I would just call. Hope your LO feels better soon.

@kiddosc: is there a pediatric urgent care? If you have no established ped I would try that first for immediate care. If not I would probably just go down the provider list till you find someone that can see you same day.

I work at a clinic and even if someone calling in isn't an established patient, we will still schedule them with any pediatrician or family practitioner who has an opening, and then instruct them to follow up with the pediatrician of their choice for the next appointment. We also have an urgent care too... But of course not all have that.
I think rules are very specific to individual clinics though.

@regberadaisy: I'd prefer to skip urgent care since it's so much more expensive. His fever decreases with meds, it's just persistent and everything I read says to go in after 3 days.

Yes, we have been able to. We moved in June and in September our son got sick. My husband called the pediatrician we chose and we got in the same day. Haven't had to see her again until just last week and he had breathing problems so another same day appointment. I love her.

@kiddosc: DD ran fevers for 4+ days too... as high as 104! She is finally going back to school tomorrow. I called our standard pediatrician yesterday, and he was out so I was referred to his backup pediatrician in another office, whom I never met... and there were no issues. Most pediatricians should have same day appointments available to squeeze in time for patients that need immediate care. I've never had an issue when it comes to that.

Our office has a walk in "clinic" attached to the main practice, so anyone in town can use it, even if they are not registered with the practice.

I don't think you need a relationship with a doctor in order to be treated properly. Especially for something as simple as that!

@Mrs. High Heels: I'm glad your DD is feeling better. We've had a flu outbreak in this area recently, so I don't know if it's the flu or just a regular virus that has us all knocked out.

My guess is they'll tell you to go to the walk in clinic. We are in the same spot and that's what they told us but them clinic is attached to their office
