LO is four months and hasn't pooped in well over 24 hours.
first time this has happened. He uses poops 2-3 times a day. He's EBF. Not nursing long most sessions, very gassy (farts). Seems fine otherwise but I'm worried!

We waited a week, then went in to see the dr. The longest she's gone was close to three weeks, but we were giving her prune juice several times a day, and she wasn't fussing or upset. Once she went it was the same consistency as it always was, so dr figures she was just using everything! Now that she's on solids, were back up to several poos a day - it was a nice break when she went once a week!

I wouldn't be worried about no poops for at least 5 or 6 days. EBF babies are efficient at using their nutrients!

EBF babies can go up to 10 days (or longer) without pooping!!! I definitely wouldn't be concerned until it's been at least a week.

Yep, not a concern yet! As they get older, babies' bodies get more and more efficient at taking what they need from BM. And with BM, there's really no "waste" product so up to ten days is considered perfectly normal. Now once they're on solids, that's a whole different story....

Called my doctor just to be safe. Totally normal, like you all said (unless he was in pain or miserable, which he's not). They just said to bicycle his legs a lot and use a Vaseline coated qtip to *ahem* stimulate things. I did and no progress yet ...

A went 16 days once. I asked the ped and she said typically up to 10-14 days can be normal as long as there is no fever, vomiting, hard tummy, unhappy baby etc.

@cmomma17: hehe. LO only poops every couple of days, but when she does....holy crap. It's insane.

My EBF LO only pooped every couple of days - sometimes only once a week! It freaked me out but apparently is totally within normal range. I knew a poopathon was coming by her grizzly behaviour the day before.babies are so weird. Glad your little man is feeling a bit, um, lighter and happier

We are having the exact same issue today for the first time ever. I'm all prepared for an overnight poopsplosion of epic proportions!
