Spurred by @pepper's post about NIP, I am curious--how do you nurse in a carrier? I love this idea but don't understand how it works. We have the ergo and LO is 12 lbs so we no longer need the insert. Any tips?

I don't have an Ergo, so can't tell you much about that. But I just googled "nursing in an Ergo" and found two decent looking youtube tutorials.

I haven't nursed in the Ergo since R is a peanut and doesn't fit yet. But I have with the Ktan. She was sitting up so her face was right at my boobs. I had to lift my boob up a little so she got the nipple but she was fine eating as we walked around the zoo. I haven't done it since. Probably will be harder now since she is bigger and doesn't sit right at the boobs.

I would lower the straps a bit so his head was closer to my breast. Then, since I am larger chested I would have to hold my breast up a little bit for him. I also used a nursing cover since I felt like someone would be able to see what I was doing from the side.
ETA: I did it this way with and without the insert.

We nursed in the Ergo all the time! Even when DS was huge and 21 months old :).
At the younger/smaller age, where your LO is, I would just expose the breast and adjust LO to "find it" then use the hood as a nursing shield. As he got bigger it became easier to drop the waist some so he would sit lower. I also had to adjust the straps a little sometimes. I used a nursing cover over top at that stage if I wasn't wearing a zip up to help cover the sides.
Jillian from Pax Baby nurses her toddler in a Tula by situating LO in the carrier with both legs to one side and sort of leaning back to the opposite side. Not sure if that makes sense, but I think she has pictures on their FB page and/or videos on YouTube on how to do it. You can also do it in the Ergo, but at that point I was so used to doing it the way we were that I found it more difficult and LO didn't like it as much.

I have a beco but I just loosened the straps and let him nurse. I would watch videos on YouTube.
