i tried nursing my 7-week old in public for the first time today and it was not characterized by the words "great", "fine", "smooth sailing" or anything remotely resembling those words.
first there was the draping of the cover, undoing the bra, moving the nursing pad, separating the layers of my nursing top, finding the boob hole, etc...i can deal with those maneuvers and know they need practice, but i get all that taken care of, and my little guy won't latch on for more than a few seconds at a time. he's all squiggly and moving around and not focused on the boob. i think he nursed for maybe 3 minutes out of 10 minutes of struggling.
i thought perhaps the new environment was too stimulating for him, as was the fact that we were out and about--he was in the ergo facing inwards, but still...did anyone else have a similar experience when they first nursed in public? how long did it take for you to get the hang of nursing in public?
