Wow! I've nursed for over two years, in public daily with no cover, and I've never gotten a comment like that.

So sorry you got such a comment! But good for you for standing up to the man; hopefully such encounters will slowly start to change social expectations.

I have never gotten a comment, but I live in a liberal college town. (The most attention I have ever gotten was when someone at a restaurant was very careful to _never_ look at me while I nursed my baby through dinner.)

Whoa! No I never once got a single comment, and I nursed past a year and a half (though after a year or so it was rarely in public). I probably got a few looks but never noticed or cared. I do live in a very pro breastfeeding area.

That would make me so mad, but I probably wouldn't actually have said anything since I wouldn't want to get upset and upset the baby. I'd like to think if I overheard this I would pull the man aside and tell him to mind his own business.

wtf! sorry you had to deal with that. I don't think anyone has ever said anything to me about nursing in public. Once a woman was gawking at me in a way that made me really really uncomfortable (and my friends who I was with noticed too), but I saw that woman another time when I wasn't nursing and I think she was just a weirdo gawking at my baby regardless

I have been nursing without a cover in. Public for 20 months and never gotten a comment or even noticed a nasty look. Wow! Good on you for standing up for yourself, though!

I nursed at a diner last wknd using an A&A cover and got looks from a couple people, but no one said anything negative. I'm so sorry that man was so rude to you!

@littleredhairedgrl: that's terrible! He would have got a piece of my mind for sure!! We are still nursing at 21 months today and often out in public. I have gotten comments mostly positive but a few negative. Don't let it get you down. I am glad things are going better with your little guy then they did with A. (I should add we have never used a cover E HATES them)

I never got any comments, but I definitely got dirty looks on occasion.

OMG! What an asshole! I cannot believe the nerve of some people! I nursed for 26 months between my two girls, mostly without a cover, and never had any negative comments! The only comment I ever received was from a group of midwives who were at the next table from us in a very crowded cafe. I was nursing DD1 without a cover, she was about a year old at the time, and the midwives gave me a thumbs up, and then stopped at our table on their way out to explain that they were midwives and they were so pleased to see someone still nursing their child at this age and in public without feeling the need to hide away. I was so surprised I didn't really know what to say, but it was nice nonetheless. That was in Australia. I'm in England now, pregnant with my third, but I'm not expecting any negative comments as it's pretty widely accepted here.

@littleredhairedgrl: I have gotten some looks but no one has ever dared to say anything. I don't use a cover anymore because my DD like to play with it and it is probably more distracting than me just pulling my shirt down and feeding her.

That man is lucky you were so polite in your response I would not have been. Perhaps he should go drink his coffee in the corner facing the wall!

@littleredhairedgrl: oh gosh! I'm in NJ too and have also nursed at a Target in the café. No comments! I really hope you just got a grade-A asshole. Keep doing what you are doing.

@littleredhairedgrl: We are in Ramsey. Did you deliver at Valley? I highly recommend the breastfeeding support group on Thursdays at the Kraft Center in Paramus. I'm back at work now, but it helped me SO much when I was on maternity leave.

I got a dirty look from a man in the mall once, but whatever. I didn't nurse in public much, but when I did I never really caught any flack except for that one time.

Wow! Go you! I can't believe you were able to do that at 3 weeks old! When my LO was three weeks we were still barely able to handle nursing at home and had to do it in the one spot on the couch totally surrounded by like every single pillow in the house.

That guy was horrible! im so sorry you had that experience.

@littleredhairedgrl: I have been nursing uncovered in public for over 2.5 years and I have never had a comment like that. Lots of encouraging comments from other moms. The only time I have ever had stares is in certain cities in the States, because I didn't realize it wasn't a thing to pubically breastfeed everywhere. But even then, nobody said anything.
